Russia today reaffirmed its firm position in support of resolving the Palestinian issue based on international legitimacy resolutions.
Russia Today quoted the Russian Foreign Ministry as saying in a statement following a telephone conversation between the Russian special envoy for settlement in the Middle East, Vladimir Safronkov, and US Deputy Secretary of State Hadi Amr today that “The Russian side stressed the importance of creating conditions conducive to the resumption of direct Palestinian-Israeli negotiations under the auspices of the International Quartet with the aim of Settlement of the basic final status issues on the basis of well-known international legal references that stipulate the two-state solution.
The Russian Foreign Ministry indicated that it was stressed that unilateral steps are not permissible, such as expanding settlement operations, including the demolition of Palestinian homes in the West Bank, pointing out that the international quartet parties agreed to hold their regular meetings.
