Separatism: the oppositions will not vote for the text

2021-02-15T19:31:29.395Z

If the majority intends to display its unity during the solemn vote this Tuesday in the Assembly, left and right will abstain or vote against.

135 hours of debate later, the majority is relieved.

The examination of the separatism bill comes to an end in the National Assembly and must be adopted without incident at first reading Tuesday afternoon.

“We were predicting a tragedy.

A divisive text that would tend to the whole majority.

Ultimately, the exchanges were republican, on the merits.

A consensus has emerged in the majority, ”

we welcome the Interior Ministry.

Unlike last fall's comprehensive security bill, the LREM group actually expects to show its unity at the end of the ballot.

The majority even hopes to rally opposition deputies.

The Republicans, who will take the final decision on Tuesday in a group meeting, are expected to vote widely against the government's bill.

If a few LR deputies could abstain, in principle there should not be a vote in favor of the text.

"The account is not there, the text is not up to the challenges"

, explains the president of the LR group to the Assembly.

“It is a bill of posting.

There are too many gaps.

Everything I have heard is neither convincing nor up to the stakes.

The French will not see how their daily life will change, ”

continues Annie Genevard, rapporteur for the text.

"It is unthinkable to vote for a text that has evacuated all the real subjects, conspicuous religious symbols, radicalization, immigration",

maintains Éric Ciotti.

"It is an addition of measures, it does not make a policy",

judges the deputy of the Alpes-Maritimes.

In the ranks of deputies of the National Rally, the vote on the text has taken, in recent days, the air of a puzzle.

The six elected RNs voted in favor of fifteen articles.

Three of the most sensitive: article 4 creating a new offense of “separatism”, article 18, named after Samuel Paty, creating an offense of endangering others by disseminating information relating to privacy, and Article 44 expanding the grounds for closing places of worship.

Difficult, however, to vote in favor of a text in its entirety, after having accused it of

"missing its target"

or of attacking

"fundamental freedoms"

.

Voting against is not a viable option either.

Completely with her desire to become president, Marine Le Pen no longer intends to embody this

"systematic opponent".

What is more on a subject like Islamism on which a vote against would be used against it by its adversaries.

The six RN deputies have therefore decided to abstain from the vote on Tuesday.

The Socialists should also choose to abstain.

The decision must be confirmed at their meeting on Tuesday morning.

"This law does not provide an answer",

judged Valérie Rabault, the president of the group, Monday morning on Public Senate.

For their part, the Communist deputies are also awaiting their meeting on Tuesday morning to define whether they will abstain or vote against the text.

Elected officials have not always been on the same line.

In an interview with

L'Obs

, Marie-George Buffet explained, for example, that the ban on virginity certificates was a

"positive" point.

Her colleague Elsa Faucillon, however, preferred to abstain from voting for this measure.

“Everyone has raised different things according to their own experiences,” the group

tempers.

On the other hand, there will be no surprise among the Insoumis: Jean-Luc Mélenchon and his family will vote against the text.
