The Diabetes Program in the Sweida Health Directorate plays an important role in providing free drug and educational services to patients registered in it.

According to the head of the program, Doctor Mazen Abu Ammar, the number of registered patients currently stands at 6,713, of whom 2,715 are provided with insulin, 3,567 patients receive oral depressants, and 431 patients receive insulin and anti-depressants together.

The total number of services provided by the program last year, as stated by Doctor Abu Ammar, reached 56,260 services, and last month to 3,986 services, indicating that the program covers about 90 percent of patients' needs from depressants and nearly 100 percent of insulin, with interruptions sometimes beyond the control of those involved in the health sector as a result The conditions of war and the unjust economic blockade imposed on Syria.

The patient is approved in the program according to Doctor Abu Ammar after diagnosing his condition by a specialist doctor from the program, hospitals or private clinics, so that he takes his own number to receive services that are generally monthly or more and according to the patient's need for the necessary drug dose.

Due to the difficult conditions that Syria is going through, the program faces difficulties, most notably, as the doctor Abu Ammar mentioned, insulin interruptions and depressants sometimes, as well as the lack of insulin pens for children for more than nine months, so that they resort to injecting the substance for them with Serang, similar to the older age groups.

According to Buthaina Fahad, the coordinator of the Diabetes Program in Sweida, the patient registered in the program is directed to the nearest health center to his place of residence, indicating that the number of health centers that provide program services in the governorate is 85 centers, including 18 centers that provide insulin and 67 centers for oral depressants, through a nursing staff that reaches 179 male and female nurses confirmed the need to work in the coming period to cover all centers with doctors and medical analysis services.

Within the program, according to the social counselor run by Nahed Sabeq, support the patients morally and reduce their fears and the concerns of the parents of the affected children, as well as introducing them to how to live with the disease, practice their work and hobbies, and apply the required instructions, in addition to distributing awareness leaflets to school administrations on how to deal with diabetes children.

During a SANA reporter's tour of the program administration building, the patient, Umm Hussein, indicated that she had been receiving oral depressants for two years and that she was satisfied with the treatment with the program, with occasional interruptions in the depressants, prompting her to resort to private pharmacies.

Whereas, Amr Al-Nabawani stated that the program provided his father with oral depressants through the village health center for 13 years, and today he was transferred to insulin after undergoing an open heart surgery.
