NIS 3 and a half million - this is the compensation payment imposed on Shlomi Cohen, 44, a former teacher from Mevo Horon, as part of a civil lawsuit, for committing numerous sexual offenses of rape, sodomy, indecent acts and more.
Cohen committed the acts for many years on three brothers who were ages 13-6 at the time the offenses were committed.
Recall that in the criminal proceedings on June 4, 2015, the Southern District Attorney's Office filed an indictment against Cohen, attributing to him the commission of sexual offenses on numerous occasions between the years 1996-1999, against three brothers.
One month before the filing of this indictment, another indictment was filed against Cohen in the Magistrate's Court in Petah Tikva, for committing similar sexual offenses against another minor, and he was sentenced to 44 months in prison.
According to the facts of the indictment of the criminal proceedings, Cohen, who as mentioned was a teacher at the time the affair was revealed, forged a close relationship with the family when everyone lived in Gush Katif before the disengagement.
He took advantage of the close relationship after their father left home, committing numerous sexual offenses on various occasions, while hosting them at his home as well as during visits to their home.
At the end of that procedure, in June 2019, Cohen was sentenced to 20 years in prison in the Be'er Sheva District Court, before a panel of judges Ariel and Ego, Alon Infeld and Ariel Hazak.
In addition to the actual imprisonment behind bars, the defendant was ordered to pay compensation to the victims of the offense as part of the criminal proceedings.
Now, as stated, the civil proceedings have also come to an end, in which Judge Gad Gideon of the Be'er Sheva District Court ruled compensation in excess of NIS 3.5 million for bodily injuries caused to the five plaintiffs and the plaintiffs due to the sexual offenses committed by Cohen.
