Covid-19: there are more than 4,000 variants in the world, according to the United Kingdom 0:56
(CNN) -
People traveling to the UK who have spent time in 'high-risk destinations' will now have to self-quarantine in a government-run facility upon arrival in the territory.
The new policy goes into effect this Monday for anyone who has been in a so-called "red list" country in the last 10 days.
The list includes 33 hot spots with variants of covid-19 in circulation.
Spread of UK variant could lead to stricter restrictions in Europe, says WHO official
To date, the government has reached agreements with 16 hotels, which provide 4,963 rooms for the new quarantine system.
Another 58,000 rooms are on hold, authorities said.

Those traveling to the UK from elsewhere must self-quarantine for 10 days at home and get tested for COVID-19 on the second and eighth days after arrival.
The variant first detected in the United Kingdom "is going to sweep the world", warns the head of the genetic surveillance program
All travelers arriving in the UK must provide a negative COVID-19 test taken no more than three days prior to departure.
