During the Lunar New Year holiday, the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department stepped up strict enforcement of anti-epidemic regulations. In the past four days, it has stepped up inspections in various districts and conducted joint operations with the police in multiple districts.
The department inspected more than 3,000 premises and initiated prosecution procedures against 28 persons in charge of catering businesses or other persons suspected of violating the Regulations.

Together with joint operations with other departments, the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department inspected more than 3,000 premises during the Lunar New Year holiday in the past four days, including 2,650 dining premises and 420 other premises, and directed 28 food and beverage outlets suspected of violating the provisions of the Regulations. The business or other responsible persons initiate prosecution procedures.
The relevant premises involved the provision of dine-in food after 6 pm, the distance or separation between the tables did not meet the requirements, the persons on the premises did not wear masks, the number of people sitting at the same table exceeded the upper limit, or the listed premises were not closed as instructed.
The FEHD also issued fixed penalty notices to 4 persons who violated the group gathering rules.
The government reminds the persons in charge of catering businesses and listed premises to strictly abide by the provisions and instructions of Chapter 599F of the Prevention and Control of Disease (Requirements and Instructions) (Business and Premises) Regulations, and the public must also observe epidemic prevention when patronizing catering premises Regulations and restrictions, including requirements for gathering in groups and wearing masks.
If the person in charge of the catering business or listed premises violates the Regulations, he can be prosecuted. Once convicted, he can be fined up to 50,000 yuan and imprisoned for six months.
A customer who violates the maximum number of people sitting at a table in a catering establishment may be subject to a fixed fine of $5,000 for violating Chapter 599G of the Prevention and Control of Disease (Prohibition of Group Gathering) Regulations.
In addition, in catering premises, customers eating or drinking outside the table area or not wearing masks when they are not eating or drinking can be fined a fixed amount of $5,000 for violating Chapter 599I of the Prevention and Control of Disease (Wearing Masks) Regulations.
The Food and Environmental Hygiene Department emphasized that it will continue to strengthen law enforcement and publicity, and deploy additional manpower to take joint actions with the police to take stringent enforcement actions against offenders.
