In the new indoor swimming pool in Geretsried the motto is: let water go!

In the new indoor pool, water flows into the pools for the first time.

Initially, however, this only serves as a leak test.

Bathing is only possible in summer.

  • An intermunicipal indoor swimming pool is being built on Adalbert-Stifter-Straße

  • It is currently being tested whether the newly built pools are leakproof

  • The opening is planned for summer

Geretsried

- The groundbreaking ceremony for the intermunicipal indoor swimming pool in the largest city in the district was set almost three years ago.

At that time, the mayors of the municipalities involved and District Administrator Josef Niedermaier were looking forward to going swimming for the first time in February 2020.

The work dragged on, however, and recently a fire in the large stainless steel basin caused an involuntary interruption.

But on Tuesday a “water march” could be heard over the construction site.

The so-called leak test is currently running there.

The city organized a press conference for the moment the tap was turned on in the largest pool in the indoor pool.

Mayor Michael Müller put his feet into the water for the first time.

“This is not yet for Warmbaders,” said the town hall chief in a good mood.

The water should stay in the basin

It now takes three to four days for the 25 by 12.5 meter pool to fill up.

Meanwhile, the outside of the basin in the basement is on the lookout for damp spots.

"I assume that the work has been done properly, otherwise you would have to drain the water and reweld," said Christoph Otawa from the municipal building authority.

The goal, however, is that the pool can now remain permanently filled.

There is already water in the teaching pool and diving pool with a one- and three-meter tower.

“Everything looks good there,” says Otawa.

The fourth basin is not made of stainless steel, but of concrete.

It has already been tested for leaks and can now be tiled.

An elephant slide for small children will also be set up there.

With the exception of bubble loungers in the teaching pool, this will remain the only leisure facility for the time being, even if there is the option of adding a sauna and an outdoor pool.

Fee model is being developed

"It is an inter-municipal school and sports swimming pool," emphasized Mayor Michael Müller.

A third will be public baths.

The focus is on school sports in the district and the surrounding communities.

In addition, all clubs should have space in the building on Adalbert-Stifter-Strasse, which costs around 18 million euros.

There are also four group changing rooms and four swimming units that can be used separately.

"The capacities are sufficient, but must be used effectively," said the town hall chief.

As far as possible, there should be no idle times, also because the operation of the indoor swimming pool is becoming expensive: “One hour costs us 360 euros.” Geretsried and the neighboring municipalities will share the operating cost deficit.

The city council is working on a fee model so that only water areas that are actually needed are booked.

"It should serve the control," said Müller.

In order not to put the Geretsried clubs at a disadvantage, “we would imagine a subsidy model”.

He did not go further on this subject.

The admission price has not yet been determined either.

The indoor swimming pool is operated by the Geretsrieder Stadtwerke, the occupancy is coordinated by the Sports Office.

Even if the essential element is now available in the swimming pool, students, club swimmers and bathers have to wait a little longer before they can get into the water.

After the fire at the end of last year, components were already replaced.

However, electrical lines still have to be checked.

In addition, tiling, facade and plumbing work as well as work on the outdoor facilities are currently underway.

Completion should be at the end of May or beginning of June.

Müller: "I assume that we can open in summer, at least at the beginning of the school year."
