On August 31 the previous year, police and civilian clashes broke out in multiple districts on Hong Kong Island and many people were arrested.

One of the arrested 19-year-old students was involved in the riot, and people beside him threw petrol bombs at police officers.

He denied being tried for a crime of riot, and the District Court judge today (16th) ruled that the defendant’s evidence was established.

Defendant Ye Juncheng (19 years old) was charged with participating in a riot along with others in the Sogo Department Store on Hennessy Road in Causeway Bay on August 31, 2019.

After the defendant was ruled that the evidence was established, the defense stated that the defendant did not defend himself and there was no defense witness.
