North Korea has tried to steal Pfizer's corona vaccine technology through a hack into the company's computers, the South Korean news agency reported today (Tuesday), quoting the National Intelligence Service.

It is not known when the break-in took place or if it was successful.

Last year, North Korean hackers tried to break into several drug companies, including Astraznica.

South Korean intelligence services said they had thwarted an attempt by the North to break into local companies involved in developing vaccines for Corona.

Digital espionage against healthcare organizations, pharmaceutical companies and scientists has intensified during the corona plague, in light of efforts by various countries to obtain the latest research information on the virus.

North Korea is often accused of using the army of hackers to steal money around the world to fill its empty coffers due to international sanctions on the regime.

Health experts say North Korean hackers may be more interested in selling stolen information about vaccines than using it to develop local vaccines.

The isolated communist state is due to receive its first shipment of Astrazenica vaccines through the international vaccine-sharing program COVAX, although so far it has not verified any cases of the virus in its territory.

South Korean intelligence said the possibility of an outbreak in North Korea could not be ruled out as it had active trade and transit of people with China before closing the border early last year.

Ree Sol Joo, the wife of leader Kim Jong Un, has not been seen in public for more than a year.

According to South Korean intelligence, Ya maintains a low profile to avoid contracting the virus.
