Spokesman: Labor candidate Abtissam Maraana should not be disqualified in the Knesset elections

"In the Attorney General's position, in light of the Supreme Court's ruling regarding the criteria for disqualification of candidates, the limited evidence presented in the two applications for disqualification of the respondent's Knesset candidacy, most of which does not substantiate any of the three grounds for disqualification," Mandelblit said.

The adviser referred, for example, to a post published by Ra'anana-Menuhin on Facebook and claimed that it constituted support for a terrorist organization or an armed struggle against the State of Israel.
"The main evidence brought in this matter is a 'post' posted by the respondent on her private Facebook account on November 2, 2020 with a picture of a starving Palestinian prisoner who was in administrative detention. The caption published by the respondent in the post concerns the hunger strike," the counsel said.
Mandelblit added: "Beyond being a single publication, it should be noted that according to the Supreme Court's ruling, publications concerning the affairs of prisoners and detainees, although difficult and may express a message of sympathy with prisoners who have committed serious security offenses, are not in themselves evidence. The consultant also noted that Maraana-Menuhin recalled what she had written in the posts, some of which were from 2013-2012.
