District - Last year, 239 trainees began dual vocational training in companies from industry, trade and services in the Dachau district.

This corresponds to a minus of 5.9 percent compared to the previous year, reports the IHK for Munich and Upper Bavaria.

197 of the new contracts were concluded in commercial professions, 42 in industrial and technical professions.

Despite the corona crisis, the training market has proven to be robust and receptive.

According to figures from the employment agency from September 2020, around 98 apprenticeship positions in the district remained vacant.

Above all, the falling number of school leavers from general schools had a negative impact on the applicant market.

According to the Ministry of Culture, this decreased by 4.9 percent across Bavaria compared to the previous year.

There was a particularly high decline in applicants who could choose to study as an alternative.

They amounted to minus 15.5 percent for applicants with a general university entrance qualification and minus eight percent for applicants with a technical college entrance qualification.

Peter Fink, chairman of the IHK regional committee Dachau, emphasizes: “Many companies want to train because they are banking on the future, and for this they urgently need young skilled workers.

Unfortunately, the pandemic has brought almost all career guidance measures for schoolchildren to a standstill.

The important application phase in spring also suffered as a result.

Trial internships, training fairs and personal application interviews could not take place.

But despite all the uncertainties caused by the crisis to this day, our companies rely on committed and highly trained specialists.

You think ahead.

Every trainee is an asset to her. "

In view of the lockdown, according to Fink, it is now all the more important to pull out all the stops in professional orientation.

"We have to break new ground and become more digital." The best example of this are the webinars held by the Bavarian Chamber of Industry and Commerce training scouts until the summer.

In them, trainees from companies in all industries report on their everyday work and training and answer questions from their viewers.

"These young people can best explain to schoolchildren and parents how a 2/2 training works and what solid foundation each trainee lays for his or her successful professional career," said the chairman of the IHK regional committee.

In the top IHK professions, the salespeople led the new trainee contracts in the district in 2020, followed by the retailers, the bankers and the office management clerks.

The office management clerk was at the top for the girls, the salesperson for the boys.

All in all, the IHK trainees started their training in 46 different professions, from automotive salespeople to two-wheel mechatronics technicians.

The Chamber of Industry and Commerce is responsible for more than 60 percent of all apprenticeships and supports 242 active training companies in the district.
