It is almost the only sign of life that suggests that behind its old stones, the Tarnier hospital is still alive.
Nestled in the 6th arrondissement of Paris, rue d'Assas, a stone's throw from the Jardin de l'Observatoire, the medical establishment seems almost abandoned.
Much to the despair of the mayor (LR) of the 6th century, Jean-Pierre Lecoq, who for years has been enraged to see these under-occupied square meters.
"In addition, the premises are deteriorating," sighs the elected official.
The dilapidated building continues to deteriorate, with the risk of rockfall even appearing.
A heresy in the center of Paris which lacks so much housing and where square meters of free space are so rare.
At the last Paris Council, by means of a wish, the elected representative therefore called on the City of Paris, owner of the walls, so that it reappropriates the places partly occupied - free of charge - by APHP services and that it gives them a future.
A wish revised by the executive but voted unanimously.
APHP intends to move
"I am happy that the City is finally taking control of the building", welcomes Jean-Pierre Lecoq.
The latter's services are therefore already working on the future reconversion of Tarnier, with somewhat constrained specifications.
"The City is the owner following a bequest which obliges it to dedicate the site to research and teaching", indicates Anne Souyris, assistant (EELV) to the mayor of Paris in charge of health.
Nothing is set in stone yet, but the town hall is working with the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Paris for this reconversion project.
"Several APHP departments still occupy the premises but they will move to the Hôtel-Dieu and, for others, to the Cochin hospital", one explains to the City.
As and when departures, the town hall will recover the square meters to transform the site.

"The Hôtel-Dieu should see the light of day by 2024, but we hope to be able to start the work of Tarnier on an occupied site", we further explain to the City.

Only the Baudelocque school of midwives, of the University of Paris, already on site and soon to be joined by the Saint-Antoine / Sorbonne University of Paris midwifery school, will be able to stay within the walls.
And for good reason: they correspond perfectly to the project under development.
The City has indeed decided to transform the site into a center dedicated to women's health, combining a university and research center in maieutics, a care center dedicated to the fairer sex but also associative activities on the issue of violence. to women in particular.
The premises will also house around 30 housing units for researchers.
The offices of assistants Anne Souyris and Marie-Christine Lemardelay (PEC in charge of higher education and research) have started working on the foreshadowing of the project.
The file, the schedule of departures from the APHP services and that of the development work should be presented by the end of the year to elected officials in Paris.
