There is dogged struggle in Germany to relax the corona restrictions.
Cologne's Lord Mayor Henriette Reker calls for an even tougher course in the coronavirus pandemic.
Munich / Cologne - The calls for easing of the coronavirus pandemic in Germany are getting louder.
But a politician has proposed a change of strategy - towards an even tougher lockdown.
Coronavirus pandemic in Germany: Henriette Reker pleads for no-Covid strategy
"In this phase of the pandemic, I consider a short, more consistent lockdown to be expedient when it comes to being able to loosen the corona-related restrictions as quickly and sustainably as possible," said the independent mayor of Cologne, Henriette Reker, of the
Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger
.
It has harmed the state “that we - by that I mean federal, state and local authorities alike - were often too hesitant”.
Reker wants even more: the so-called "No-Covid strategy".
This means that the coronavirus infection process is completely pushed down and a repeated increase in the number of Covid 19 cases can be controlled from the outset - ideally.
“I have already committed myself several times to the 'No Covid Strategy', which provides for a change in strategy,” said Reker.
So it is crucial "to be one step ahead of the infection process".
The 64-year-old therefore only suggests relaxing the corona from a constant seven-day incidence of 10 - and also wants to implement this approach in the fourth largest German city (around 1.03 million inhabitants).

No-Covid strategy in Germany?
Cologne mayor wants corona incidences below 10
"We have to reduce the number of new infections to a level that is so low that our society can handle them well," said Reker further: "From the point of view of experts, the virus would be manageable with an incidence of around 10 - based on ours Health system and the economy. "
The Cologne town hall chief is currently in Covid-19 quarantine after visiting the control center of the fire brigade last Thursday (February 11) with politician colleague Herbert Reul (CDU).
According to media reports, the Interior Minister of North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) has been infected with the particularly dangerous British Corona variant B.1.1.7, as reported by
