Our cultural memories: When metal queen Doro rocked the ducal city

It has become quiet about the culture. That is why we remember special events from the past in our new series. Today: a very special heavy metal evening with Doro in Erding.

It has become quiet about the culture.

That is why we remember special events from the past in our new series.

Today: a very special heavy metal evening with Doro in Erding.

Erding - The metal queen in Erding?

It almost tore me out of the editorial chair.

No question about who would report on this acoustic Christmas concert in the Schiaßn in December 2014.

Finally a great concert with us, I thought to myself.

Metal in the ducal city?

Usually nil.

So on to the legend Doro Pesch, who became famous in the 80s with the band Warlock and hits like “All We Are”, has been a solo success since then.

Back then, Doro and a few of her bandmates gave an exclusive concert for 250 lucky winners of a RockAntenne campaign.

The big question: Is this 1.60-meter bundle of energy with the blonde mane and distinctive black eyeshadow also off stage, away from TV cameras, such a personable figure as it always seems?

Clear yes.

It couldn't be more authentic.

The fact that she loves her music, metal, and above all her fans, the metalheads, so much is not just a saying.

She emphasizes this practically in every break after every song - not just in the small appearance in Erding, but everywhere on the stages of the world.

A certain external embarrassment arises automatically - especially at a metal concert.

But from this likable woman, you just buy it from her, you don't take it away from her.

She really means it.

And she is a full professional.

A colleague from “Rock It” magazine and I try to take reasonably reasonable photos during the first three songs, with pain in the thighs and back.

Pain?

Yes, it is tight in front of the small stage.

The stage ditch is actually not a ditch, you have to be careful not to trip the good Doro with the camera.

But the full professional Doro makes it as easy as possible for us.

At the beginning she always poses in such a way that we photographers can easily take beautiful pictures - despite all the cramped conditions and acute angles.

It probably helps that you like the two reporters at first glance.

Sure, one of them appeared in a complete metal outfit, the other, that is me, at least wears a Wacken shirt.

That pleases the queen, who resides every year at the largest metal festival in the world in the far north.

Just like me, by the way, almost always over the past decade.

I was there nine times in Wacken, my tenth anniversary was last destroyed by Corona.

Heart and soul is the first word of my report at the time about Doro's appearance, and it is also the last of that article.

This bracket describes not only the nature of the metal queen very well, but also the entire scene.

Metal doesn't just mean listening to something on the radio and finding it nice.

It's a way of life.

Several hours of sound?

Necessarily.

But please every day!

I still have February 21, 2020 in my head.

Testament, Exodus and Death Angel - three Thrash legends in the sold out, hopelessly crammed, sweat-drenched Munich backstage work.

It will be my last concert to date that I have attended.

A few days later it was already said that a few members of the named bands had Covid-19 (and certainly some fans too).

No question, there is no alternative to the current mandatory concert break.

Nevertheless, it will hopefully not remain permanent for too long.

Conversations with good people, but also with complete strangers before the concert, I miss that a bit;

with pleasant, open-minded people.

Music means freedom, having a good time, being human.

No matter how old you are, where you come from, what skin color or what job you have, what religion you belong to.

Nowhere else is this lived so much in my opinion as in the metal scene.

Hopefully there can be concerts again soon - again with Doro in Erding.

Cultural memories

It has become quiet about the culture.

Cinema, town hall, Jakobmayer - all venues are closed.

And they will probably be the last to reopen after the corona lockdown.

So that the culture is not completely forgotten, we reminisce a little.

In loose succession, editors and reporters tell about their most impressive concerts, cabaret evenings, theater or film performances in the district.
