The heavy smoke had only spread horizontally near the ground due to a so-called inversion weather situation - it prevents air exchange in higher layers, the fire department said.

As a result, there were several missed missions of the emergency services in the north-west of Nuremberg and also in Fürth, as concerned people interpreted the smoke as a fire in their immediate vicinity.
