No, these are not archive photos, but recordings from last Monday: supporters of Donald Trump cheer for "their president" in Florida.

As before - lost choice or not.

And the ex-president also behaves as if there has never been a defeat.

From his golf department he continues to pursue politics - and divides his own party.

He fired the broadside against the most senior Republican, Mitch McConnell, in the form of a written statement.

"If the Republican senators stand by him, they'll never win again," Trump said.

And followed up with personal attacks:

"Mitch is a sullen, morose political bungler who never smiles"

The "political bungler" had been loyal to Trump for years.

An alliance of convenience, for political reasons.

As a Senate majority leader, McConnell was able to use Trump's enormous popularity to enforce laws such as tax reform and delight Republican voters.

And thereby strengthen his own position of power.

Trump, in turn, needed McConnell to carry out his agenda.

The election defeat ushered in the end of the alliance - and with McConnell's speech in the second impeachment process came the inevitable separation:

Mitch McConnell, Republican Senate Leader

“There's no question that President Trump is practically and morally responsible for the events of January 6th (storming the Capitol).

There is no doubt about that. "

McConnell himself had voted against Trump's impeachment because of formalities.

Nevertheless, he dared to create a threatening backdrop:

Mitch McConnell, Republican Senate Leader

“As long as the statute of limitations has not passed, he can be held accountable for everything he did during his tenure.

So he hasn't gotten away with it yet.

Not yet."

Trump faces a number of lawsuits - civil and criminal.

Obviously, that doesn't deter him from portraying himself as the greatest puller of all time - and pushing the split within his party further:

"This is a big moment for our country and we cannot let it go by letting third-rate 'leaders' rule our future," he writes.

»We love you.

We'll be back in some form. "

His departure from office was also a promise for a political comeback.

In keeping with this, Donald Trump had chosen his first public appearance after the impeachment procedure with caution: on the so-called "President's Day", on which the Americans commemorate their first President George Washington, he showed up at his fans.
