The Ministry of Health is expected to decide today (Thursday) on the re-segmentation of the traffic light program, following which thousands of students will return to school on Sunday, even though the traffic light in their city is orange and the morbidity is very high.

The Ministry of Health fears the opening of studies in these localities, but sees the opening outline as a factor that could encourage local authorities to encourage immunization among residents.

According to the outline, the re-segmentation of the traffic light that is expected to be published will in fact expand the number of local authorities in which grades 5-6 and 11-12 will return to school as early as this coming Sunday.

It will include a final list of cities where 70% of vaccinators are over the age of 50 - and whose traffic light rating is below 7.

There is a big problem in the education system as it is not yet possible to vaccinate children under the age of 16, while the age group with the highest amount of infection is aged 19-10 with almost 20%.

On the other hand, of those aged 19-16 who are entitled to be vaccinated, only 35% were vaccinated.

So the risk of infection is high, especially in cities with high morbidity.

At the same time the teaching staff are in no hurry to get vaccinated.

According to data from the Ministry of Health, there are 348,551 employees in the education system, of whom only 60.7% were vaccinated in the first dose - and only 45% in the second dose.

Health Minister Yuli Edelstein is struggling with teachers who refuse to be vaccinated and aspires for their details to be passed on to the Ministry of Education, thus banning them from frontal learning in classrooms and they will only be able to teach in Zoom.

Edelstein hopes that in this way they will be able to reduce the hesitant and allow the education system to be opened in the most careful way.

Magen Israel, led by the corona projector, Prof. Nachman Ash, admits that they would have preferred that there be no studies at all in the red and orange cities, not even according to vaccine indices.

However, they understand that in this way they will be able to encourage local authorities to encourage immunization in cities and localities.

In addition, despite the improvement in the morbidity situation in Israel in recent days, most cities are still red or orange, so they need to be adequately addressed.

The Ministry of Health estimates that the opening is a calculated risk, and according to the existing conditions, they hope that the increase in morbidity will not be too sharp and will ruin the vaccination campaign.

The Director General of the Ministry of Health, Professor Hezi Levy, explained to Walla! NEWS that at this stage it was not possible to continue the closure of the education system: - We would not take unnecessary risks, it is a calculated risk.

I believe that the vaccines will help us to do better this time, but I am very afraid of the low immunization percentages of the teaching staff. "
