Studies in grades 7-10 will not resume this coming Sunday - this was decided tonight (Thursday) in a discussion chaired by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, which was also attended by Defense Minister Bnei Gantz, Health Minister Yuli Edelstein, Education Minister Yoav Galant, and National Security Council Chief Meir Ben Shabbat, Director General of the Ministry of Health Prof. Hezi Levy and Corona Commissioner Prof. Nachman Ash.

The decision was made in light of the relatively wide opening of the economy that has already been decided on this week, and could lead to an increase in morbidity.

Also, in view of concerns about the impact of the British mutation and increased infection on children and adolescents who are not vaccinated, it was decided at this stage to adopt a more cautious approach, and to stick to the Ministry of Health's exit plan.

During the discussion, Netanyahu asked for tests to be conducted on the reason why the UK decided to close the education system by April.

Last Monday, at the Corona Cabinet meeting, Education Minister Galant asked to consider opening classes in grades 7-10, but the discussion on the matter was postponed to today - and finally it was decided not to proceed with the opening of classes.

However, the Corona Cabinet did approve the opening of trade and culture, as well as the resumption of classes in grades 5-6 and 11-12 this coming Sunday - in green, yellow and borderline orange cities.

Today, the Ministry of Health updated the cutting of the new traffic light, which increased the number of localities in which they will return to school on Sunday.

Under the new definition, in orange cities with a score below 7 and a vaccination rate of 70% among those aged 50 and over, the education system will open next week, with the exception of grades 7-10.

In doing so, these localities will join the greens and yellows where studies take place.

The ministry held a discussion this morning, chaired by Minister Yuli Edelstein, in light of the improvement in morbidity leading to the local authorities' progress in traffic light scores.

At the hearing it was determined that the new cut would perfect the immunization rate based on the rate calculated for Sunday, and would include a deduction from recoveries.

The ministry stressed that the cut is one-time, in light of the morbidity changes and ahead of the opening of the second beat on Sunday.
