The stake is major since it is a question of nuclear deterrence, a formidable achievement of France.
The first generation of SNLE had been launched by General de Gaulle, the second, that of the Triomphant, in the years 1980-1990.
Our current SSBNs will be in service until 2050. In accordance with the wishes of the President of the Republic, we are continuing to modernize our deterrence.

The first copy of the 3rd generation SSBNs will be delivered in 2035, for entry into service in 2036. We will have four submarines to continue to be on duty at sea. They will be delivered at an interval of five years.
These SSBNs will sail until 2090. They will be propelled by a nuclear boiler and will be equipped with 16 nuclear missiles.
