The total number of accidents in the Freising district has decreased by 17.5 percent compared to the previous year.
The police registered a total of 4,744 accidents in 2020, in 2019 there were 5,754 collisions, reports Police Chief Inspector Josef Demmel.
“That is certainly a corona-related tendency.” Due to the lockdowns, the curfew and numerous home offices, many cars were left in the garage.
Demmel also emphasizes: "In all these figures, the accidents on the two motorways in the Freising district are not taken into account."
As few traffic fatalities as in a long time
Two people had a fatal accident in 2020 as part of two traffic accidents in the area of the Freising police station.
"That is the lowest value in ten years," emphasizes Demmel.
Incidentally, the highest value of the decade was recorded in 2016.
The number of road deaths was nine people.
Another positive trend: while the statistics in 2019 showed 734 injuries in road traffic, it was 597 in Corona year 2020 - a decrease of almost 19 percent.
The number of slightly injured people fell by 18.45 percent in 2020 (508 people) compared to the previous year (623), and the number of seriously injured people by almost 20 percent.
In 2019 111 people were seriously injured in road traffic, in 2020 89 people were seriously injured in road accidents in the Freising district.
The number of speeders also decreased
Mistakes when turning, turning, disregarding the right of way and excessive speed were the main causes of the accidents.
The number of speed accidents in the Freising district has fallen sharply by a good 18 percent.
In 2019, in 145 accidents, inappropriate or excessive speed was the cause of the accident.
Last year, 118 speeders were on the road that had an accident with their vehicle.
The police in the Freising district also see the decreasing participation of so-called young adults in road accidents as "extremely positive".
"There has been a decrease of almost 23 percent," says Demmel.
In 2020, “young adults” were involved in 315 traffic accidents.
In 2019, the participation of this group of people was 408 accidents.
In 2011 the “young wild ones”, as Demmel calls them, were involved in 462 traffic accidents.
After that, these accident rates fell continuously.
Police praise for the student guides

The police chief inspector is happy about something else: the continuous decrease in accidents on the way to school - from eight in the district in 2019 to five currently.

“The number of alcohol accidents in the Freising district rose slightly in 2020, despite the high pressure of the police to check,” Demmel sums up.
Drunk road users were involved in 45 accidents in 2019.
In 2020, they looked too deep into the glass at 56 collisions.
"In a 10-year comparison, however, the number of alcohol accidents is not worrying," says the expert: "It is within an acceptable range of fluctuation."
A trend that worries the police
Josef Demmel described the high number of wildlife accidents in the district as "worrying".
They make up 35.5 percent of all accidents.
The police had to record 1685 accidents involving wildlife in 2020 (previous year: 1781).
In 1,458 cases, deer collided with vehicles, followed by 115 hares, 32 wild boars, 23 foxes and 15 badgers.
In three accidents involving wildlife, one person was seriously injured and four people suffered minor injuries.
