The prosecution had requested against the former mayor (1995-2020) and deputy of Eure-et-Loir (1993-2012) a six-month suspended prison sentence and a 30,000 euros fine.
He was found guilty of having participated, when he chaired a semi-public company, Semcadd, which managed an industrial park in Dreux, in a vote to award a call for tenders in favor of companies where her son-in-law and her son had responsibilities.
Public contracts worth around 1 million euros had been awarded to these companies.
Gérard Hamel's lawyer, Me Rémi-Pierre Drai, who had pleaded for release, denounced during the hearing "
the desire to bring down the politician, who must be by nature corrupt
", while his client was at the origin of the procedure.
"
My client was sentenced without taking into account the context, this offense is very difficult to avoid, it is a mixture of a feeling of injustice and inequality
", reacted Me Drai.
