About 250 residents are protesting today (Friday) against crime in the Negev at the Mashavim junction in the Ramat Negev Regional Council, following the sexual assault of the ten-year-old girl during a robbery at her home.
The demonstrators carried signs that read "Enough of promiscuity in the Negev", "In the Negev the people of Israel will be examined" and "Demand security, the red border has been crossed".
Bedouin residents from Bir Hadaj participated in the demonstration.
The head of the Merhavim regional council, Shai Hajaj, also attended the demonstration.
"The threat is to the entire State of Israel and not just to the south," he clarified.
"Everyone is talking about Corona, and almost no one is talking about crime and violence. While crime is expanding, becoming increasingly difficult and threatening - the election campaign is almost non-existent."

Hajjaj went on to say that "the question 'Who will you sit with and who will you boycott' preoccupies politicians far more than the question 'Do you have a plan to fight crime?'. Even the horrific rape of the girl in the south failed to bring this issue to where it was. "Israel must now face the Corona epidemic, but it is no less serious and threatening than the epidemic of crime and violence that is wreaking havoc on all sectors. And the virus of violence is not even being sought for vaccination."
On Sunday, an indictment will be filed against three suspects, Bagir and two minors, on suspicion of burglary of a house in the Negev, and one of the minors will also be charged with an act of sodomy on a ten-year-old girl at the time of the burglary.
The main suspect in the attack linked himself to the acts yesterday but denied that he committed sodomy on her.
The police investigation reveals that more than two weeks ago, a burglary was received, on suspicion of sexual offenses against the girl.
The 10-year-old told her mother that two suspects had come to her room, and one of them, allegedly a 17-year-old boy, kissed her and performed sodomy on her.
The girl shouted, Dad chased after them and they ran away.
The suspect claims that he was indeed in the girl's house and did not attack her, but the police findings give a different picture.
