Chinese telecommunications equipment manufacturer Huawei filed an application with the British High Court on February 12 to obtain internal documents from HSBC Bank (HSBC) to prove that the company's vice chairman Meng Wanzhou did not mislead HSBC.
A British judge rejected this request on February 19, and Huawei expressed disappointment.

Reuters reported that the judge rejected Meng Wanzhou’s application in a written judgment on February 19 and ordered Meng Wanzhou’s team to pay 80,000 pounds in legal fees.
A Huawei spokesperson said that he was disappointed with the court’s decision and said that “obtaining relevant information and clarifying the facts help to pursue justice.
A spokesperson for HSBC said that the application was unfounded and he was pleased that the High Court agreed with HSBC's position.

Meng Wanzhou’s lawyer previously stated that Meng Wanzhou’s PPT report to the bank in August 2013 was edited in an attempt to make her look like she was misleading the bank about the relationship between Huawei and the Hong Kong company Skycom.
Huawei pointed out that it asked the court to issue an order to find out who in HSBC knew about the meeting between Meng Wanzhou and the bank in 2013, what they discussed during the meeting, and how widely the results of the meeting were circulated within the bank.
