Karlsfeld / Dachau - The new Johanniter vaccination center on the parking lot of the Karlsfelder See started operations on Thursday.

With this 600 square meter vaccination tent you are now ready for the vaccination operation, which is gaining momentum, said Joern Osenbrück from the Johanniter Accident Aid.

Osenbrück runs the vaccination center.

District Administrator Stefan Löwl, Upper Bavaria's District President Maria Els and State Parliament member Bernhard Seidenath (CSU), who also chairs the State Parliament Committee for Health and Care, also attended the opening of the new center.

The new vaccination center was built in just ten days.

There, 300 people from Karlsfeld and mainly communities from the northern part of the district can now be vaccinated every day.

"The vaccination can now really pick up speed," said District Administrator Stefan Löwl.

Around 6200 men and women from the Dachau district have already received their first vaccination.

The residents and most of the employees in old people's and care facilities have already been vaccinated if they wanted to be vaccinated.

In the coming weeks, significantly larger vaccine deliveries are expected, the district administrator announced.

For the coming week, 2500 vaccination doses from different manufacturers have been promised, so that a corresponding number of vaccination appointments can be assigned.

In the first week of March, the district will receive a further 3,300 vaccine doses, said Löwl.

The district administrator announced that the family doctors will soon be involved in the vaccinations.

The vaccination schedule is currently about three weeks behind because there was no vaccine.

In the Karlsfeld vaccination center, the serums from Biontech and Moderna are inoculated for those over 65, while Astra Zeneca is used for those under 65.

However, those willing to vaccinate cannot choose the vaccine.

District President Maria Els praised the commitment of the Johanniter.

She thanked the members of Accident Aid for the confidence they gave with their work.

It is always nice to see the glimmer of hope in the eyes of the elderly when they visit, especially when they are vaccinated.

The district president was convinced that the vaccinations are now on the right track.

Vaccinations are the central topic in order to move forward with the fight against the pandemic.

MdL Bernhard Seidenath agreed: "The vaccination is still the sharpest sword in the fight against the disaster." Since the vaccinations began, there have been no major corona outbreaks in Bavaria.

On December 15, the Johanniter relief service had already put a container system into operation at Karlsfelder See for the start of vaccination.

However, due to a lack of vaccines, vaccinations were only possible to a limited extent.

There were also complaints, for example because senior citizens had to wait in the cold for their vaccinations (we reported).

The container system has now been replaced by a comfortable, 15-meter-wide and 40-meter-long vaccination tent.

There is also barrier-free access with a covered and heated waiting area on tarred surfaces.

Based on the experience from the first few weeks, the new vaccination center is better geared to the needs of the visitors and the circumstances, said Osenbrück.

It is particularly important to the Johanniter that those willing to vaccinate can feel comfortable.

The vaccination center runs eight hours and has a capacity for around 300 vaccinations a day.

A pool of more than 50 employees and doctors is available in a two-shift model.

After entry, registration takes place at one of the four check-in places.

The visitor then comes to a waiting area and is called from there to one of the three vaccination booths.

After the vaccination, the vaccinated people come into the observation room, which offers space for twelve people.

After the necessary observation period has expired, visitors leave the vaccination center via the exit area.

The corona-related minimum distance can be maintained everywhere on the site.

FFP2 masks are mandatory.
