In the 2020 corona year, fewer accidents with fewer injuries occurred in the Miesbach district.
But the number of deaths has almost doubled.
The Rosenheim Police Headquarters has submitted its road accident report for 2020.
Accordingly, the number of accidents in the district fell from 3300 in the previous year to 2737, a decrease of 17 percent.
The number of people injured in these accidents also fell: from 659 to 593. Meanwhile, the number of deaths is sad: eleven people died on the roads in the district last year.
There were only six last year.
Less traffic, fewer accidents - but more dead on roads in the district
The two lockdowns in 2020 have significantly reduced the volume of traffic.
The excursionists on the weekends haven't changed anything about that either.
Less traffic in this case also means fewer accidents.
The number of injured cyclists in the presidium area has risen by a quarter
This is how police chief Robert Kopp explains it.
He says: “Especially due to the lock-down in spring and late autumn, the widespread failure of classroom teaching at schools and the need to work from home wherever possible, the number of road users and mobility has temporarily decreased significantly.
At the same time, many people were drawn to exercise in the fresh air, which became very clear in the significant increase in the participation of cyclists and pedelec riders in traffic accidents and in the occasional increase in excursion traffic. " 23.7 percent increased to 2430.
