A case heard in the Magistrate's Court in Be'er Sheva this week was particularly chilling.

Police investigator Moti Kakon presented to Shatta, deputy president of the Magistrate's Court in Be'er Sheva, a shocking chronicle of violence.

"The respondent is suspected that following an argument with his wife he started attacking her, punched her in the head and pulled her hair, caused her bruises, in response shouted and said she would bring her father and in response he gave her more punches. When the complainant's father called the suspect, the suspect threatened him and said "That he would give him a bullet in the head and that of his daughter. Then the suspect returned home through the window and broke his wife's cell phone. Since that incident, the suspect has been on the run.

Defense counsel said in his defense: "This is a respondent with no criminal record, completely normative, the respondent is threatened by the same father that if he does not arrange money he will put him in jail."

Regarding the signs of violence on the woman's body, the defense attorney said that "I do not know what caused the scratch, but it does not work out of punches."

In this case the police requested seven days of detention to complete the investigation.

However, the judge extended his detention for only one day.

"In the investigation file there are documents that establish a reasonable suspicion in the respondent's case. However, since this is a respondent without previous convictions and in light of a defense argument he raised during his investigation and has not yet been examined, although its part could be clarified with due diligence before bringing the case." The respondent to an alternative to remote detention, "she wrote.

The suspect had no alternative to house arrest and therefore the judge noted that "it will be recalled that this is not a borderline case where there is room to release under any conditions, as long as the respondent seeks to present a non-scattered remote detention alternative, clear address and by supervisors."

The investigation into his case continues and the suspect has been released from custody.

This case is one unfortunate example of the phenomenon of domestic violence, which has been growing in the last year.

These are usually a man's offenses against his partner.

Media engagement often focuses on the most shocking cases of domestic violence, which end in mental injury, and fails to explain the dimensions of the phenomenon.

An examination of the minutes of the discussions reveals that this is a nationwide, cross-sectoral and class phenomenon in Israeli society.

Published weekly as part of the Walla!

NEWS The number of domestic violence offenses that reached detention extensions in the various courts in the country, and a number of notable cases that were brought before the court that week.

Last week, between February 11 and February 17, 95 detention cases were opened for domestic violence, an increase of 7 cases from last week.

The data is based on the records that appear on the court website, not including confidential hearings, and therefore the number may be even higher.

She wanted to go to her parents, so he beat her

In another hearing held last Thursday in the Magistrate's Court in Be'er Sheva, also before Vice President Anat Hulata, a man arrived who violently assaulted his wife and the police asked to extend his detention.

"The respondent is suspected of assaulting his wife on 7.2.2021. After contacting him and saying she was going to her parents, the suspect slapped her in the face, pulled her hair, kicked her legs, took her mobile device," police investigator Motti Kakon described the incident to me The judge.

The suspect's defense attorney said in his defense, "This is a chain of events. The complainant's family objected to the suspect's wedding with the complainant and here comes the whole conflict. I assume there is a conflict between the woman and the suspect himself, the suspect denies the incident."

Police have asked for the man's detention to be extended by 7 days due to the danger posed by him.

Judge Hulta extended the suspect's detention by four days and wrote in her decision: "In the investigation file, the documents establishing the necessary evidentiary basis at this stage were marked.

The following case was tried in the Magistrate's Court in Petah Tikva, and illustrates that violence is not always directed only at women - in many cases the children also suffer violence and in more extreme cases even sexual abuse. "This is a case of domestic violence, the guy here is suspected of severely assaulting a partner, sexually assaulting his daughters. He hit his wife. He took a phone call and threw it at her face and caused her injury. There are visible signs," Major Moran Mugisel described and also detailed offenses. The sex that the suspect allegedly committed on his daughters. "Over a long period of years he commits sexual acts on his daughters. At the moment some of them are adults, but when they were small. I'm talking about acts that have been going on for a long time. "The

suspect's defense attorney told his defense in court," It means a lot when I want to know when the acts were committed, if they were committed a decade ago, five or seven years ago, it has significance for continued detention. I think that the suspect's wife should be questioned under warning. "

Judge Adi Jakubowicz ruled that a review of the investigation file shows that there is a reasonable suspicion against the suspect for committing the offenses attributed to him. I find that there is an evidentiary basis that establishes a reasonable suspicion against the suspect for the offenses for which he was suspected. "The judge extended the suspect's detention by four days, with the police intending to file an indictment against him in the coming days.
