After the shell, it's time for the interior design of this "beehive open to the neighborhood", according to the phrase of the architect Domi

Closed since 2015, La Poste du Louvr e (Ier) will not reopen before the start of 2022. Will this legendary post office, the only one in France open 24 hours a day, retain this singularity?

Nothing is less sure…

" I do not know.

The hours will be determined during the year ”, replies Rémi Feredj, general manager of Poste Immo, a real estate subsidiary of La Poste, owner of the premises.

In a rapidly changing district, a few weeks before the opening of the Bourse de Commerce et de la Samaritaine, the vast construction site of the former Hôtel des Postes (35,000 square meters of floor space), which began at the summer 2016, is well on its way to completion.

“The transformation of La Poste du Louvre illustrates the capacity of this building to adapt over time.

Starting from a building with an almost exclusively industrial vocation, we carried out a program of great diversity, both functional and social, ”observes Rémi Feredj.

A jewel of industrial architecture, this enormous 28-meter-high building built by Jules Guadet in 1886 on the plot delimited by the streets of the Louvre, Etienne-Marcel and Jean-Jacques-Rousseau, is "a single block, 90 meters deep and 60-70 m wide, with natural light absolutely everywhere, which we open onto its neighborhood thanks to 5 clearly visible porches, including two in the rue du Louvre ”, explains the architect Dominique Perrault, winner of the European competition launched in 2012.

“We didn't take long to hire them.

We are signing the leases shortly with two companies, ”says Rémi Feredj.

Pharaonic, these works, which made it possible to highlight the monumental stone facade and the large Eiffel-type iron arches that delimit the majestic courtyard in the courtyard, cost 145 million euros.

"We kept the budget, even though we suffered from residual oil pollution in the basement and the Covid-19 crisis, which cost us three and a half months of delay and 1 million euros", specifies Rémi Feredj.

“A masterpiece by Jules Guadet, this building has a seductive modernity that speaks to me.

Today, we no longer know where Guadet ends or where Perrault begins!

Enthuses the famous architect, who had the original metal structure (columns, arches, beams, etc.) repainted in black to give a strong line to this emblematic building from the end of the 19th century.
