The US House of Representatives introduced a cross-party bill on February 19, condemning the Chinese and Hong Kong governments for violating Hong Kong’s rights and freedoms.

The bill was introduced by the Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, Democrat Gregory Meeks, and the chief Republican member Mike McCaul of the committee. They pointed out the autonomy enjoyed by Hong Kong after the implementation of the Hong Kong version of the National Security Law. Immediately afterwards, the CCP’s large-scale local arrests, disqualification of democratic members of parliament, arbitrary blockade of the Internet, and criminalization of basic human rights became the new normal.

They said that the bill condemned Beijing for grossly violating the international commitments of the Sino-British Joint Declaration, and at the same time asked President Joe Biden's government to take more actions to firmly support the people of Hong Kong and join hands with China and the Hong Kong government. Accountability and let the private sector understand that the Port’s National Security Law poses threats to US security, the public, and long-term business interests.
