Russia is not wanted in the circle of the G7 countries under Joe Biden: "I do not think that we will issue new invitations to Russia or repeat new invitations to Russia," said Biden's spokeswoman Jen Psaki on board the presidential plane Air Force One.
This would make it clear that the new US president would not pursue the plans of his predecessor Donald Trump to invite Moscow to the next G7 meeting.
"Obviously an invitation would be made in partnership with the G7 members," emphasized Psaki.
Trump had announced last year that he wanted to invite the Russian head of state Vladimir Putin to the meeting of the heads of state and government of the seven leading industrialized countries originally planned for June 2020.
The summit was postponed due to the corona pandemic.
At the 2019 summit in Biarritz, Trump had not found approval from the G7 group for the second time.
Federal Foreign Minister Heiko Maas also rejected the former US President's advances in Russia last year.
After the annexation of the Crimean peninsula in 2014, Russia was excluded from the group of states, reducing the G8 to the G7.
In addition to the USA and Germany, the G7 group includes France, Italy, Great Britain, Canada and Japan.
