The Iraqi Ministry of Health announced the registration of 3,273 new cases of coronavirus, and 13 deaths from it.
Alsumaria News quoted the ministry as saying in a statement today that the total number of HIV infections in Iraq rose to 664,750 cases, while the total number of deaths reached 13,245.
In addition, the Ministry revealed that severe infections were recorded in children and young ages with the new mutated strain of the virus, indicating that "infections with the new strain have escalated rapidly in recent days, in addition to severe infections in children and young ages, and this happens for the first time."
The ministry indicated that "the time has come for society in all its classes and segments to take all measures to reduce infection among citizens, and it is now imperative to strictly implement the decisions of the Supreme Committee for Health and National Safety in all parts of Iraq."
The statement warned that "laxity in applying preventive measures and with the spread of this new strain threatens a rapid rise in injuries during the coming days," which may expose Iraqi health institutions "to the risk of losing control over absorbing the increasing number of infections and thus increasing deaths."
