Update from February 19, 6:52 p.m

.: Denmark * closes

several smaller border crossings to Germany *

due to the Corona situation in Flensburg

(see previous update)

.

The Ministry of Justice announced on Friday in Copenhagen.

In concrete terms, this means that the Danish police will close a total of 13 border crossings from midnight on Saturday night.

Important transitions such as Frøslev, Kruså and Padborg, however, remain open.

The ministry said that the controls there were "much more intensive".

The measures therefore apply temporarily with a view to clarifying the situation south of the border.

"Border controls are an important and necessary tool to keep new chains of infection out of the country," said Justice Minister Nick Hækkerup.

Corona infections in Flensburg almost exclusively with mutant B.1.1.7

Update from February 19, 4:20 p.m.:

The mutation B.1.1.7 from Great Britain not only spreads faster, many experts are of the opinion that the mutant could also favor a more severe course.

It is precisely this mutation that is now being registered more and more frequently in Germany.

According to Mayor Simone Lange (SPD), almost only corona infections with variant B.1.1.7 are now found in Flensburg.

In the past few days, mutants had been detected in 80 cases, Lange said on Friday.

Corona "special situation" in border town - Lauterbach sees "first example of what could threaten us with mutation"

Update from February 19, 10:22 am

: The SPD health

politician

Karl Lauterbach commented on Twitter about the spread of the virus mutants in the city of Flensburg.

He sees it as a "first example of what could threaten us with the further spread of UK B.1.1.7".

Lauterbach takes the view that only a “strict lockdown until we are well below the target incidence of 35” can prevent this.

Then fewer clusters would form and control over contact persons would be possible again, according to Lauterbach on Twitter.

Schleswig-Holstein's Prime Minister Daniel Günther announced on Wednesday that the number of infections was falling in almost all regions of the state.

“But we have a special situation in the city of Flensburg and the Schleswig-Flensburg district,” where the numbers caused great concern.

According to the mayor of Flensburg, Simone Lange, 33 percent of the new infections were due to the mutant B.1.1.7.

The state government therefore decided a night curfew between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. and tightened contact restrictions for the Flensburg district.

In contrast to the rest of the country, the schools here will not open again from February 22nd.

Corona in Germany: No significant decrease in the incidence

Update from February 19,

6:20 a.m

.:

The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) recorded 9113 new corona infections within one day.

In addition, another 508 people died in connection with the corona virus, as can be seen from the RKI figures from Friday (as of 5.30 a.m.).

Subsequent changes or additions are possible.

Last Friday, the RKI reported 9860 new infections.

The seven-day incidence nationwide fell only slightly compared to the previous day: from 57.1 to 56.8.

In the days before, there had been no significant decrease in the incidence.

The nationwide seven-day R-value was 0.94 according to the RKI situation report on Thursday evening (previous day 0.85).

The value indicates that 100 infected people infect 94 other people, whereby it depicts the infection process 8 to 16 days ago.

Corona Germany: Lockdown extension in Thuringia

Update from February 18, 10:23 p.m

.: The people in Thuringia have to be prepared for restrictions due to the corona pandemic

that will last

for weeks.

A new regulation, which comes into force on Friday, provides for an extension of the lockdown with contact restrictions and shop closings until March 15.

According to the Ministry of Health, it is possible at any time to shorten the period of validity if necessary.

The regulation also contains relaxation.

In Thuringia, the infection rate is still stronger than in all other federal states.

According to figures from the Robert Koch Institute and the State Chancellery, the seven-day incidence of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants and seven days rose from 111.6 to 119.5 within 24 hours in the Free State.

The federal value, however, was 57.1.

Thuringia is currently the only federal state with an incidence value over 100.

Update from February 18, 7.41 p.m

.: The coronavirus mutation B.1.1.7, which appeared for the first time in Great Britain, is apparently spreading more and more in Germany.

This is shown by the example of Düsseldorf.

In the North Rhine-Westphalian state capital, the variant already accounts for more than 40 percent of infections.

The increase is leaps and bounds.

On Tuesday the share was still 27 percent, on Wednesday 30 percent and on Thursday more than 40 percent.

The seven-day incidence has been increasing again in Düsseldorf since Tuesday.

It rose from 33.8 on Tuesday to 44.9 on Thursday.

This means that there is no legal basis for possible relaxation, for which an incidence value of below 35 would be required.

Corona Germany: Bad outbreak in Leipzig nursing home - almost a quarter of the residents dead

Update from February 18, 2:55 p.m

.: After a major corona outbreak in a Leipzig nursing home, almost a quarter of the residents died.

The outbreak began a few days after residents had been vaccinated, the city announced on Thursday.

However, it is not clear whether people were infected before or after the vaccination appointment.

Two appointments are necessary for corona vaccinations so that they can develop their full protection.

The “Leipziger Volkszeitung”

had previously

reported on it.

The outbreak began on January 18th and the first vaccinations started on the 14th.

According to the city, 70 people lived in the nursing home.

46 residents and 21 employees were infected.

16 residents died.

The home was placed under quarantine, which was lifted on February 10.

All residents are currently tested negative.

Corona in Germany: Police have to stop two celebrations

Update from February 18, 3 p.m.:

Experts warn urgently: the Corona mutations can still cause a lot of damage in Germany and the world.

But 32 guests at a birthday party were now unimpressed by the warnings and predictions of politics.

In Zwickau, the police were called to a house on Wednesday evening because of the noise, where the officers met 16 adults and 18 children.

As the police said on Thursday, those present were celebrating a birthday.

They came from nine different households.

A complaint was made against all adult celebrants for violating the

Corona Protection Ordinance.

The host was a 22-year-old.

And a party was also stopped in Gelsenkirchen.

There the police found eleven adults and seven children in one apartment.

Around 10 p.m., neighbors complained about the noise.

"As soon as they arrived, the officers noticed the loud music from one of the apartments," the police said on Thursday.

A total of 18 people were then met - and that in the middle of the pandemic.

"The police officers issued all non-resident guests a place expulsion and wrote reports because of the violation of the Corona Protection Ordinance."

Corona in Germany: The vaccination debacle is taking on grotesque features - thousands of appointments remain free

Update from February 18, 12.20 p.m.:

While many millions of people are currently waiting for a vaccination appointment in Germany, more than 2500 such appointments are still free in Saxony this week alone.

Problems are mainly caused by the vaccinations with the Astrazeneca product, which is not suitable for people over 65 and is therefore intended for medical and nursing staff, as Kai Kranich from the German Red Cross Saxony said on Thursday.

"We suspect that this target group is not yet sufficiently informed that there are free appointments for them." But it is not easy to find those who are now in turn for the vaccination.

But that might not be the only problem with the sluggish vaccination course.

After the ongoing criticism of the Astrazeneca vaccine, the DRK Saxony does not rule out that there is general uncertainty about the effectiveness of the vaccine.

In 50 out of 1000 cases in Saxony, this vaccine was rejected, as Kranich explained.

The big organizations of the medical profession have urged the nurses to get vaccinated.

"Those who are not vaccinated have a significantly higher risk of contracting Covid-19." All approved vaccines, including those from Astrazeneca, "help to avoid serious illnesses and hospital stays".

Corona in Germany: RKI publishes infection numbers - at a constant level

Update from February 18, 10:40 a.m.:

The health authorities in Germany reported 10,207 new corona infections to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) within one day - hardly less than a week ago.

In addition, 534 additional deaths were recorded within 24 hours.

On Thursday last week, the RKI had recorded 10,237 new infections and 666 new deaths within one day.

The high of 1,244 newly reported deaths was reached on January 14th.

The number of new infections registered within 24 hours, 33,777, was the highest on December 18, but it contained 3,500 late reports. According to the RKI, the number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants reported within seven days (seven-day incidence) was nationwide on Wednesday morning at 57.1 - and thus slightly higher than the previous day (57.0).

In the days before, there had been no significant decrease in the incidence.

Four weeks ago, on January 21, the incidence had been 119.0.

Its previous high was reached on December 22nd at 197.6.

Corona in Germany: number of new infections stagnated - no further decline recorded

Does the decline in the number of infections that have been observed for weeks threaten to come to a standstill?

An assessment will only be possible in a few days.

Experts point out that due to the weather conditions, some people may have recently visited a doctor or a test center later than usual and new infections were therefore detected with a delay.

The development in the course of the spread of the more contagious variant B.1.1.7 cannot yet be foreseen.

According to the RKI management report on Wednesday evening, the nationwide seven-day R-value was 0.85 (previous day 0.84); here, too, there is currently stagnation instead of a further decline.

The value means that 100 infected people theoretically infect 85 more people.

The value represents the occurrence of the infection 8 to 16 days ago.

If it is below 1 for a long time, the infection process subsides.

Update from February 18, 6.25

a.m

.:

After several corona cases in a physiotherapy practice in Wedel in Schleswig-Holstein, more than 400 people are in quarantine as contact persons.

The path of the infections is still unclear, the district announced on Wednesday evening.

So far, five employees and six patients have tested positive for the corona virus.

The practice will initially be closed for two weeks.

Coronavirus pandemic in Germany: Corona numbers explode - Grenzstadt imposes contact ban

First report

from February 17th:

Munich / Flensburg - The British Corona mutation B.1.1.7 keeps the authorities in Germany continuously on their toes.

Latest development: Presumably because of the Covid-19 mutant, the number of new infections with the insidious coronavirus * in Flensburg has risen drastically within a short time.

And that has consequences: From Saturday, February 20, there will be a

curfew between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. including a ban on contact

in the northern German border town (around 90,000 inhabitants) with Denmark

.

In concrete terms: Members of a household are then no longer allowed to meet other people, either outside or inside.

Coronavirus pandemic in Germany: Great concerns about the Corona mutation B.1.1.7 nationwide

The Prime Minister of Schleswig-Holstein Daniel Günther (CDU *) announced this Wednesday in Kiel.

Because of corona easing *!

The northernmost German state wants to prevent the spread of the mutant as well as possible with these contact restrictions.

The respective authorities in Hamm (North Rhine-Westphalia) and Osnabrück (Lower Saxony) had already taken quarantine measures at the beginning of the week.

Depending on several positive tests for the virus variant B.1.1.7, which is not only supposed to be significantly more contagious, but also more dangerous than the original form of Corona.

Corona infections in Germany: The 7-day incidence in Flensburg is well above the average

The Mayor of Flensburg, Simone Lange (SPD), said the current situation in the city was "worrying".

With the "consistently high incidence and a proportion of mutations in infections of well over 33 percent, courageous action is required".

The seven-day incidence * in the city was last at 181.9 and thus well above the national average.
