The Greens see a danger in the lateral thinker scene.

In an online meeting, participants and members of the state parliament came to the conclusion: Democrats should show more edge.

District - The lateral thinker scene prepares the ground for right thought.

In any case, Gabriele Triebel, member of the state parliament of the Greens, sees this danger.

In an online debate with their parliamentary colleague Cemal Bozoglu, the participants therefore came to the conclusion that the real Democrats should show more clear edge.

"For the first time, our generation is in a pandemic," said Triebel at the beginning of the online debate with up to two dozen participants.

"It is noticeable that more and more crude conspiracy theories are emerging."

As an example, she cited the fairy tale surrounding Bill Gates and his alleged endeavor to chip humanity.

For Triebel, this closes the circle to the right-wing extremist scene.

Conspiracy theories would arise in crises "because crises need a culprit".

Historically, these were often the Jews.

"That is why conspiracy theories often have an anti-Semitic background." That is why people of Jewish origin such as George Soros, the Rothschild family or Mark Zuckerberg are the focus.

Bozoglu said: "Conspiracy narratives are radicalization accelerators and have a negative effect on democratic discourse." However, one should not make the mistake of mixing criticism of science with conspiracy narratives.

The movement “Querdenker 711” was once founded by 50 people and has since enjoyed rapid growth.

In Bozoglu's view, people's existential fears led to this.

You have to take these seriously and keep talking to people.

His tips for a counter-strategy in the discourse with lateral thinkers: take the concerns of the population seriously and actively establish communication;

rely on scientific arguments and, in the absence of them, ask specific questions about sources or studies;

Point out that out-of-the-box thinkers question reports from the public media, but do not do so with reports from Telegram channels.

"We have to look for explanations for the origin of the pandemic, not the culprits," he said.

Barbara Helmers, for the Greens in the Maisach municipal council and in the district council, sees an often lack of political education as the reason for the influx of conspiracy theories: "We should do more."

One participant in the discussion extended this requirement to include media education among the 40+ generation: "Many people from this age often do not know the differences between the platforms on the Internet."

“Democracy doesn't work by itself.

It lives from the fact that people are committed to it ”, Gabriele Triebel, Member of the Green State Parliament.

These demands met with open ears at Triebel: "Many do not know algorithms, the bubbles that form in social networks and the mechanisms there." The Green MP therefore wants a "major educational offensive in terms of social media".

For Gröbenzeller council member Ingo Priebsch, the democratic forces are too quiet when dealing with lateral thinkers on the Internet.

Bozoglu agreed: "We should go on the offensive more." Even if you can't get any further with certain people with arguments.

It is important to show a clear edge against non-democratic groups.

Triebel explained: “Democracy doesn't work by itself.

It lives from the fact that people stand up for it. ”This results in a great obligation for the demo participants of the lateral thinker movement:“ You have to make the decision whether you want to march with the right forces or not. ”Triebel does not reject questioning of measures but sets one condition: “Skepticism?

Yes.

Drifting into extremes?

No."
