A statue that reminds of a murder that has not yet been resolved causes discussions in Munich - citizens feel disturbed.

  • In 2020 a mother of two was murdered in Munich * -Perlach.

  • Now there is a statue on the street opposite the crime scene - it is not known who erected it.

  • Local residents complain - such memorials are tolerated and by no means rare.

Munich - The carved woman made of wood is almost life-size and painted in color.

She directs her gaze to the Mohrhof settlement opposite.

A 34-year-old woman was brutally murdered there last November.

The mother of two was initially reported missing by relatives.

Only during the second inspection of the apartment did a gruesome find bring certainty.

The woman's body was hidden in the box of a child's bed and had gone unnoticed for days.

The Munich woman was fatally injured by three stabs in the upper body.

The husband, who has been on the run since then, is considered an urgent suspect.

Nobody in Munich seems to know who made the sculpture and placed it on the green strip at the intersection of Ottobrunner / Unterhachinger Straße.

It cannot be overlooked.

A couple has now contacted the local district committee and feels disturbed by the figure.

Memorial to murder in Munich: District committee does not accept complaints

Road users would be distracted, criticize the citizens.

"We drive this route every day and see again and again how drivers turn right, stare at this sculpture and not pay attention to pedestrians or cyclists." In addition, garbage collects all around.

This could mean the burnt-out grave candles and faded flowers that are repeatedly placed in front of the female figure.

However, the BA does not want to follow the request to have the sculpture dismantled - “for reasons of piety”, as BA boss Thomas Kauer (CSU) made clear.

In addition, there is no danger to traffic.

The citizens want to be informed that this is a memorial for a victim of domestic violence, which was apparently a private initiative.

Munich: “Ghostbikes” and other monuments are reminiscent of the dead

Nothing is known about the creators of the Perlach figure in the district administration department either.

The erection of wooden crosses or memorials on the side of the road in memory of fatally injured road users or victims of violent crimes will be tolerated and not covered under the law of use, said a spokeswoman at our newspaper's request.

As a rule, these are only temporary uses.

"It is of course important that these do not impair road safety or accessibility and that they are securely set up."

Since there are no approval procedures for such memorial sites, the authorities cannot estimate how many exist in the city area.

However, attentive observers can discover such monuments in many places.

For example on the corner of Wasserburger Landstrasse and Jagdhornstrasse, where three people died in a burning car in a speeder accident in September 2017.

Or on the green median in front of the Perlach shopping center, where two schoolchildren aged 14 and 15 were hit by a car in 2012.

The younger one later succumbed to his serious injuries.

The “ghost bikes” are also among such memorials.

The white-painted ghost bikes are reminiscent of killed cyclists and at the same time are intended to draw attention to the dangers at the intersections in question.

There are now around 20 ghost bikes on street corners in Munich.
