Two people in Myanmar were killed today (Saturday) in demonstrations against military rule - the bloodiest day since the coup two weeks ago.
The demonstrators went out in huge demonstrations in a number of cities and villages across the country.
In Mandalay, the second largest city in the country, protesters encountered police forces sent to quell the protest, and two of them were shot dead.
Tensions quickly escalated in Mandalay, where striking shipyard workers, along with others, demonstrated as some protesters fired catapults at police.
Police responded with tear gas and gunfire, though at first it was unclear if they were using live ammunition or rubber bullets.
"Twenty people were injured and two were killed," said Koo Ung, director of one of Mandalay's emergency services.
A volunteer doctor said one man died of a head wound, and a second man was shot in the chest and later died of his wounds.
Police did not respond.

Demonstrations and civil disobedience in the country, which includes strikes and other disruptions, show no sign of moderation.
Opponents of the coup doubt the army's promise to hold new elections and transfer power to the winner.
A young demonstrator was killed on Friday after being shot in the head last week when police dispersed protesters in the capital Nipitao, it was the first death among protesters against the coup.
The army said one policeman died from an injury sustained during the protest.
