While we, the citizens of Israel, exercise our right and flock to get vaccinated or bother to hesitate to get vaccinated, millions of people in the Occupied Territories are denied this right, because the Israeli government and its chairman are choosing who can exercise the basic right to health.

However, the Israeli government's cruelty to the Palestinians escalated this week.

While the responsibility for the health of millions of people lies with the State of Israel and the moral abandonment of non-provision of preventive medical care is a recipe for humanitarian catastrophe, voices began to be heard, led by MK Zvika Hauser (New Hope). Two IDF soldiers and the release of Israeli civilians held by Hamas in the Gaza Strip.

Failure to provide medical care - a recipe for humanitarian disaster.

There is no doubt that the Israeli government has a responsibility to return the martyrs and prisoners home, but this is in the context of negotiations with Hamas, mediated by one international factor or another.

But the issue of prisoners and missing persons must not be the reason for stopping the transfer of vaccines to the Gaza Strip.

Aviram Shaul, the brother of Oron Shaul, whose body is being held by Hamas, wrote: "In the more than six years since Oron's abduction, it is time to end the discourse surrounding the escalation of humanitarian pressure. A prisoner exchange deal now is the only solution."

The painful calls to condition the vaccination on the return of the bodies of IDF casualties express enormous frustration from the deadlock on the subject. At the same time, this is a collective punishment that is contrary to international law and will not help eradicate the disease and return the boys.

Everyone deserves the right to health

Moreover, the prevention of this mass vaccination is in fact a sabotage of the Israeli government in the recovery process of a population under its control.

There is no reason why the fate of the elderly and the sick of Gaza should be different just because they were born in the territories and not in Tel Aviv.

Everyone deserves the right to health and therefore everyone should be vaccinated: Palestinians, immigrants, refugees - everyone!

Just as stated in the "Right to Vaccine" policy paper published by the "Other" Institute for Equality and Human Rights in collaboration with Physicians for Human Rights - this is a basic right for every human being.

It is important to remember that vaccinating Palestinians is moral above all else, but it is also in the medical interest.

The interests of Israel and the Palestinian Authority are epidemiologically the same: to stop the epidemic and achieve full community immunity.

As long as Israel continues to evade responsibility for the fate of the millions of people living in the territories, we will not be able to defeat the virus' takeover of our lives and give another reason to the Hague tribunal to mark Israel as a country that violates human rights.
