Gérald Darmanin on Sunday gave his support to the Minister of Higher Education, Frédérique Vidal, who asked for an investigation into "Islamo-leftism" at the university.
Guest of Radio J, the Minister of the Interior judged his colleague "very courageous".
"It would really not be looking the truth in the face not to see that the university, public services, associations are affected by Islamism sometimes helped by leftists,"
said Gerald Darmanin.

According to him, there is between the “leftists” and the “Islamists”, “an objective alliance to put an end to the Republic” by putting forward “essentialist explanations” and by seeing “everything under the prism of the race, of ethnicity, instead of seeing the citizen ”.
However, the Minister of the Interior considered that "those who link up" between "leftists" and "Islamists" were "in the minority".
“There are elected officials who compromise with the Islamists.
They are not very numerous, but they do exist, ”he said, also referring to associations, in the same case.

With regard to Frédérique Vidal, Gérald Darmanin felt that she was "right to ask for objective criteria" on this subject.
"Everyone knows that what she says is a truth and that moreover it must be objectified"
, he said.
Frédérique Vidal is entangled in a controversy after asking the CNRS for an investigation into
"Islamo-leftism"
at the university.
More than 600 academics (teachers, researchers ...) demanded his resignation on Saturday, in a column published by the newspaper Le Monde.
