In the 721 incident at Yuen Long Station in the previous year, some people in white were accused of rioting and trial will begin tomorrow (22nd).
The Vice Chairman of the Democratic Party Lin Zhuoting and the Central Committee Zhuang Ronghui held a press conference today (21). They were dissatisfied that the police did not arrange for Zhuang Ronghui to identify other suspects and did not call him to give evidence as a witness.
They questioned the police's slack in investigating the 721 incident, and worried that they would not be able to bring the people involved in the case to justice.
Zhuang Ronghui said that the police invited him three times in 2019 for identification procedures. Two of them successfully identified the assailant and admitted relevant confessions, but the police did not contact him afterwards.
Zhuang Ronghui said that he learned that another witness, Xian Zhuolan, was again invited by the police to confess and needed to testify in court. He questioned that the two were in the same place and witnessed the incident, and he was incomprehensible that they were not arranged for another confession.
At the press conference, footage of Zhuang Ronghui's calls to the New Territories North Crime Squad on February 2 and February 5 was broadcast. He repeatedly asked why he was not arranged to testify in court and was no longer arranged to participate in the identification process.
The police called Zhuang a "very important witness"
In response, the police described Zhuang Ronghui as a "very important witness," but pointed out that the two people that Zhuang had identified earlier had planned to plead guilty, and that there were witnesses who could provide the same information as Zhuang, so the Department of Justice did not consider it necessary to arrange for him to appear in court.
Zhuang Ronghui stated to the police on many occasions that he hoped to testify in court. Because he was worried that the defendant would change his mind, the police said that he would follow up for him again.
Regarding that the police did not arrange for Zhuang Ronghui to participate in the new round of identification procedures, the police did not respond positively, saying only that if he wanted to take the initiative to participate in the identification procedures, he could make arrangements again.
Zhuang Ronghui criticized the police's explanation for being unreasonable and questioned the other party's failure to thoroughly investigate the 721 incident.
