At an accelerated pace, the implementation of youth housing contracts in the city of Dimas in the countryside of Damascus is being completed on a total area of ​​525 hectares of the project, to be completed through several companies and destinations, namely (the General Company for Construction and Development, the General Company for Roads and Bridges, the General Organization for Military Construction and a number of private sector contractors).

Assistant Director of the General Housing Corporation - Damascus Branch, Eng. Raed Abdul Karim, explained in a statement to SANA's correspondence that the Dimas project was launched in 2018 and has now reached good implementation rates according to the specified time period and is considered the fifth and last phase of the public youth housing project announced since 2002-2004 and its location It extends between (Saboura - Villages Al-Assad) and (Beirut - Damascus).

The project, in which the spending ratios have reached more than 18 billion Syrian pounds, includes 19 islands and 344 residential towers, according to Engineer Abdul Karim, indicating that work is currently underway on 65 towers providing 3,480 apartments, in addition to three other contracts currently under ratification, providing 560 apartments.

According to the plan followed by the Public Housing Corporation, Eng. Abdul Karim said that from the beginning of this year until the 24th of this February, 142 apartments were allocated and it is planned to allocate 2,000 apartments during the next phase, pointing out that the contracting difficulty that occurred during the year 2020 as a result of fluctuating exchange rates from The most prominent problems that faced the project, but work is being done to address them in various ways and capabilities.

The director of the Dimas cluster project in the General Company for Construction and Development, Engineer Fadi Hajjo, explained that the construction company’s contribution within two contracts included the structure and cladding works for 14 towers, where the rate of completion of the structure work reached 93 percent, and the total work rate for the two contracts was 50 percent.

Eng. Hejjo explained that the contractual period for the company's work was set until September of this year, and that a new contract worth 5.5 billion pounds was signed, including the structure and cladding works for four towers, in addition to studying another contract worth 6 billion pounds.

According to Hajo, the cladding process for each tower needs a period of six to nine months, as they work in parallel for all the site towers to complete, indicating that each tower consists of 60 apartments with an area of ​​85 meters each.

The head of the project supervision group, Eng. George Sarraf from the General Company for Engineering Studies, indicated that their work revolves around supervising the contracts concluded by monitoring the specifications, quantities and materials according to the established conditions books, following up on concrete work and breaking samples, adding, “Sometimes we encounter observations about poor execution of some work. Working on amending them directly, and the work is followed up in a technical way through a staff of 20 people.

On his part, Ali Dibo, an implementation engineer at the General Company for Building and Reconstruction, explained that the supervision of the cladding workshops is carried out by civil and architecture engineers to monitor the quality of the materials entered for the project.

As for the role of the General Company for Roads and Bridges in completing the Dimas project, Eng. Ahmed Aboud pointed out that the company is participating in two contracts, one of which is on the island of 15 and includes ten residential towers with two models of 9 and 14 storey high, containing 522 dwellings .. and a contract on the island 16 for four residential towers of 13 floors and 220 dwellings.

Abboud explained that the time period of the aforementioned two contracts was set to two years, with 80 percent cladding, and the completion rate for the Al-Jazeera Towers structure 15 was about 70 percent and Al-Jazeera 16 nearly 20 percent.

The Public Housing Corporation had developed a housing plan in the new city of Dimas that would accommodate 26,000 housing units, including 15,000 youth housing for subscribers on the last phase of the youth housing project in Damascus and its countryside.
