Plenty of sun, plus a mild spring fan - logical that everyone wanted to go outside despite Corona restrictions, whether to the lakes and rivers or up into the mountains. The police had a lot to do.

Plenty of sun, plus a mild spring fan - logical that everyone wanted to go outside despite Corona restrictions, whether to the lakes and rivers or up into the mountains.

The police had a lot to do.

Munich - As a kiosk operator and hut keeper, you had to be well prepared.

“It's fine too” - was the assessment of host Paul Hertle at the Garmischer Tannenhütte yesterday at noon.

“People appreciate that they can hike again.” And that they are fed: Numerous game burgers and country hunters, including drinks, came to the “to-go” sale near the Faukenschlucht gorge among the people who, according to Hertle, “ behave amazingly disciplined ”.

Corona excursion: "The parking lot is completely overcrowded, but not blocked" - the location on the Großer Arber

That was also the assessment of the police.

Although the hiking parking lots were quite full at the weekend, the praesidia in the south draw a positive balance.

"Normal, weather-appropriate excursion traffic without any special incidents," it was said until the afternoon.

Something similar could be heard from the Bavarian Forest.

There was a lot going on yesterday at the parking lot for the Großer Arber.

"The parking lot is completely overcrowded, but not blocked," said the police.

Bavaria: day trippers overrun Walhalla - police blocked landmarks in Donaustauf

The Walhalla in Donaustauf also experienced a real crowd.

Here, however, the police stepped in on Saturday because up to 250 people were frolicking in the sun without masks and corona distance.

The Walhalla was cordoned off up to and including this Monday.

But that was probably the outlier: the police in the Upper Palatinate otherwise registered that more people were on the road than usual.

"But nothing significantly got out of hand anywhere."

By the way: More than half of the Bavarian counties and cities are currently below the important incidence mark of 50.

Dramatic use - Munich tourers threatened to slip

But the mountain rescuers at Kreuth (Miesbach district) * had to cope with a dramatic effort.

An emergency call came from a 44-year-old mountaineer from Haar (Munich district) early on Saturday evening from the Halserspitz.

He and his 33-year-old friend had gotten themselves up in the snow while descending on the north side.

"They were stuck about 200 meters below the summit and threatened to slip," said the Wiesse police.

Since no police helicopter could be used at the time and time was of the essence, air rescuers from Switzerland jumped in.

They picked them up from the mountain.

The 33-year-old came to the hospital slightly hypothermic.

The mountain rescue team assumes that the two climbers were inadequately equipped.

Two water sports enthusiasts also created space for themselves on the Staffelsee (Garmisch-Partenkirchen district): With short sleeves, they paddled through the water in a kayak and canoe to break through the remaining ice.

The Eibsee was also frozen over, and the glitter * lured many people to the surface, although the ice had become dangerously thin in the meantime.

It's almost routine on a weekend.

In the morning the traffic jam towards Tegernsee and Schliersee, in the evening then stop-and-go back in the same direction.

Day tourists versus locals - a conflict that ferments for a long time.

Even before the corona pandemic, overtourism brought many places in the foothills of the Alps to the limit of pain.

A 6-point plan is intended to defuse the dispute.
