The largest elections in the history of Mexico have become a gateway to politics for a dozen celebrities.

Actors, singers, models and even athletes seek to appear on the electoral ballots of the different parties next June.

The Mexican actress Biby Gaytán was this week the last to try to jump from the stage to the ballot.

The artist, also known for being a singer and dancer, will compete for the mayor of Ocoyoacac, a small municipality located in a valley in the State of Mexico.

The announcement did not come from his mouth.

The National Action Party (PAN) issued a statement on February 15 in which it reported the admission of a score of pre-candidates, who must make their candidacy official in March.

In that PAN list, Biby's real name, Silvia Gaytán Barragán, appeared half unnoticed.

The artist, who was born in Tapachula (Chiapas) 49 years ago, had been out of the spotlight for some time and dedicated to family life.

The news of his entry into politics stirred social networks, which were launched against Gaytán for having no experience in the area.

But the actress was called to silence and since then she has not made any publication on her social networks.

The only approach to politics that Gaytán has had was through her husband, who tried to stay in 2018 with the Mayor's Office of Ocoyoacac -the same one that Biby will try to find-, but lost to the current mayor.

None of the publications of the actress in her networks is characterized by having a political tinge.

His opinion about the current affairs of the country is not even known.

Mexico will renew on June 6 the total of the Chamber of Deputies, 15 state governments and some 1,900 mayoralties throughout the country.

Among the candidates already heard, there are also the singer Francisca Viveros Barradas -

Paquita la del barrio-

, the former Miss Universe Lupita Jones, Carlos Villagrán - known for his character as Quico in El Chavo del 8-.

Biby became known in 1989 when she became a member of Timbiriche, a popular Mexican musical group that started for a child audience and ended up attracting other audiences.

Until 1991 he was part of the band, which also functioned as a hotbed for renowned singers such as Thalía or Paulina Rubio, with whom he even shared the stage.

Her rise to fame led her to become an actress and began her television career within the Canal de las Estrellas.

During the 1990s, he became one of the prominent stars of Televisa when he participated in soap operas such as

Alcanzar una estrella II

,

Dance with me

or

Two women, a path

.

During his time on the small screen, he worked with artists such as Ricky Martin or Angélica Rivera, the ex-partner of former president Enrique Peña Nieto.

With the youth and freshness of his face, the image of Gaytán was marked in the nineties as the sexual symbol of the time.

His participation in television and cinema began to spread out into the 21st century.

For several years she stayed away from the cameras and returned from 2008 to appear, but with occasional appearances.

The singer returned to Televisa in 2020, to participate as a jury in a children's talent contest.

His withdrawal from the tables coincides with his marriage.

Gaytán married in 1994 the Mexican singer and actor Eduardo Capetillo, with whom she had shared several jobs.

Both began dating while filming the soap opera

Baila Conmigo

, where they were fictitiously engaged.

After the marriage, they had five children.

Once off the cameras, Gaytán spent many years forging an image of a mother and a housewife through her social networks.

She then became an expert in kitchen tips and home decor.

As if starting an impromptu electoral campaign, the artist started her own YouTube channel seven months ago, where she has already accumulated almost 300,000 followers.

In the videos she has shared, she mixes fashion tips with current images of her family, scenes from her biggest screen hits, and visits to local museums.

"I am a huge fan of my culture," he says in one.

His followers now eagerly await the next publication, waiting for him to pronounce on his entry into the electoral race.
