Until Wednesday, the hundred bishops of France meet in fact for a special assembly, from a distance, dedicated to this black issue.
The official stake is twofold.
With specialists and victims, it is for the bishops to deepen the notion of “responsibility”: the Catholic Church is certainly responsible for the pedophile deviances of some of its priests, but what does this mean precisely? on the legal, philosophical, moral, theological, pastoral, spiritual level?
The bishops will debate this responsibility, not in principle, but in its concrete application.
For example, who is responsible fifty years after the facts: the priest, the bishop, the institution?
