Iranian President Hassan Rouhani reaffirmed his country's firm position in support of finding a political solution to the crisis in Syria.
Rouhani also affirmed during a phone call with the President of the Turkish regime, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, to continue the talks of the three guarantor countries, "Russia, Iran and Turkey," within the Astana formula, in order to contribute to providing conditions for the return of the Syrians displaced by terrorism to their homeland and to pay special attention to the work of the constitution discussion committee.
In the closing statement of the 15th international meeting in the Astana format, which was held on the 16th and 17th of this month, the Russian city of Sochi, the guarantor countries renewed their strong commitment to the sovereignty, unity and integrity of the Syrian territories, rejecting separatist agendas and continuing cooperation until the elimination of terrorist organizations there.
On the other hand, Rouhani stressed that the only way to confront the unilateral and illegal behavior of the United States lies in the unity and cohesion of the countries that are under the US embargo.
Rouhani added that Iran will return to its obligations after the embargo is lifted, based on the work-for-work strategy that it has repeatedly stated.
Rouhani also touched on the situation in the Nagorno-Karabakh region after reaching a ceasefire agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia, and said that "Iran's position lies in resolving differences through negotiations and dialogue."
