Following the ecological disaster that befell the shores of Israel that were severely damaged as a result of the large amounts of pollutant spilled into them, the Safari Wildlife Hospital and the Nature and Parks Authority began to come across animals with multiple injuries.

A seagull that arrived on the beach in the Megadim area arrived at the Wildlife Hospital this morning (Sunday), after being located by citizens who were involved in the cleaning mission.

The seagull was taken by the Hibulans shuttle system to the hospital.

He was in a difficult situation, very weak and full of tar, which completely covered his feet.

He has been cleaned and is now being tested to see if he has ingested the hazardous substance in an attempt to clean himself, which could pose a real danger to his health.

Along with the seagull came a common agave found on Habonim Beach.

He was in a better condition, he was alert and on the spot he was first cleaned by the person who found him, under the guidance of the hospital.

Efforts to clean the animals continue.

The cleaning is done using special oils, it is a lengthy craft that requires patience and especially a lot of gentleness.

There are other substances that allow for faster cleaning, but they may to some extent endanger the animals and therefore are not used.

In addition to cleansing, the hospital supports the animals that came with fluids and vitamins and in the treatment of infections and weakness, which may develop as a result of signs of poisoning to which it is important to pay attention.

The animals often arrive at a very low temperature, like the seagull that arrived in a hypothermic state.

The tar mantle that surrounds them prevents them from performing simple actions such as warming up the body, which is very necessary on the cold days we go through - so they are in hospitalized complexes heated and treated accordingly.

The Wildlife Hospital treats more than 7,000 animals each year, most of which return to nature.

Hopefully the animals affected by this terrible disaster that needs to be dealt with soon will also recover, and we will be able to bring them back as well.
