This morning (Sunday) thousands of businesses are opening across the country: malls, open shopping centers and markets, street shops, museums and libraries subject to a strict purple mark.

The government decision to open trade was made last Monday, and it seems that this time the government members tried to correct most of the shortcomings that occurred with regard to trade at the time of the previous exit from the closure.

Malls are happy with the decision, especially after the failure of the "Malls Pilot" on Black Friday that took place in late November.

So, after the second closure, only 15 malls opened all over the country, with the announcement being made only at midnight - a few hours before the opening.

This time, businesses have enough time to prepare - almost a week, and the entire store will open at the same time, to avoid overloads and "attack" on the stores.

In addition, the opening of trading has been scheduled for Sunday, a few days before the start of Purim and not on the eve of the holiday, another thing that may ease the congestion that is usually recorded near the holidays.

And malls are already familiar with the procedures of the purple mark: measuring heat at the entrance, the obligation to wear a mask, maintaining social distance and preventing crowds by limiting the number of incoming customers.

Limiting occupancy in malls and street shops

  • - In malls - 15 meters per person in public areas

  • - In small shops - 7 meters per person

  • - In large stores over 150 meters - 15 meters per person

Ofer Malls CEO Moshe Rosenblum has led a stubborn struggle to open the store in recent weeks. A week and a half ago, the Petah Tikva mall opened in parallel with two other malls, contrary to the guidelines, under the "Green Outline" restrictions, which were invented by the Commerce Forum. malls opened only with a certificate becomes immune or certificate of recovering, with testing Corona negatively by 72 hours prior to arrival to the mall or children under the age of 16.

but together with Hmthsnim and recovering reached malls, dozens of police officers and inspectors distributing reports and warnings. in response to the Forum of heads of Commerce threatened to petition the High Court " C. for selective enforcement, since, according to the forum, at that very time some of the businesses in the ultra-Orthodox cities were open.

"We are glad they listened to us and all trade opened together," describes Rosenblum, who today opens all the chain's malls with government approval, "This time the guidelines match our requirements. We could not keep the green mark guidelines in the mall area, where there are also essential stores, we were not Can prevent customers from entering them. "

Alongside the blessings, Rosenblum talks about the difficulties of the shops: "The tenants talk about the difficulty of returning sick workers, people prefer to stay at home and receive unemployment benefits until June.

The clothing chains have failed to sell their summer collection and their stockpiles are piling up.

I hope that they will now be able to increase sales. "

Yaakov Peretz, owner of the Inter Jeans fashion group, which operates the Ripley, Razili and Steve Madden chains, also excitedly opens the chain's branches this morning after two months, but at the same time points out the accompanying challenges:" Welcome The decision to open the trade under the purple mark.

Now we will have to deal with the huge inventory that has accumulated for us because we were closed monthly, and winter is about to end.

"Another difficulty is returning workers who actually have the opportunity to recover by the end of June. I wish everyone health and call on people to get vaccinated."

Small business owners, including the street shops that open this morning, talk about the financial difficulties they have had to deal with in the past year.

According to Amnon Cohen, owner of the toy and games store Mama Yukro in Netivot, "The feeling of opening the store is very good after a long time. Recently we have been without income and have difficulty making a living, so we opened deliveries during the closure period. But it is still not like the store is open, we hope customers They will return. "

Cohen also referred to businesses that were defined as essential during the closures, but sold non-essential products: "During the closure period, there were businesses that were not defined as toy and toy stores that were open and sold toys and games, and that hurt us."

In early February, the High Court banned all essential stores from selling toys and other non-essential products.

"We hope that the livelihood following the opening will return quickly," Cohen concludes with cautious optimism.

"Longing for a drop of routine and sanity."

Yossi Cohen from Gaia Designs, a manufacturer of wholesale and retail jewelry, also spoke about the economic and mental difficulties as a result of the prolonged closures: "Beyond the economy, which in itself has long been in the field of survival, the feeling of sinking into dark places we, business owners, have experienced. We long for a drop of routine and sanity that will ultimately contribute greatly to both the economy and mental health, and with it will come physical resilience. "

He said, "If there is another closure we will have to hand out a sane mark, in addition to spitting ... because while an entire country counts infected, no one counts the mental payment caused by the closures, and it is already unbearable for too many citizens. Much of national resilience is economy and commerce and I feel "It is possible to trample on everything that is there to deal with the situation a little less. At the moment, we have lost in every possible parameter."
