Spring weekend in Bavaria: Police lock Walhalla

The Walhalla near Donaustauf is a popular destination for many people in the Regensburg * area.

The memorial, reminiscent of a Greek temple, was opened in 1842 and contains numerous marble busts and memorial plaques.

In addition, from the building you have an outstanding view of the meandering Danube.

That is why more than 250 day trippers were drawn to the hill in the Regensburg district at the same time on Saturday afternoon.

In times of Corona * clearly too much.

The police stepped in.

"The landmark was closed on Saturday afternoon and will remain so until Monday," said the police on Sunday.

The reason wasn't just the large number of people.

Many of them also did not adhere to the corona protective measures.

They kept their distance and many did not wear masks.

Despite the ban on visits, some day trippers bypassed the barriers on Sunday - and that in high fog instead of bright sunshine.
