"The city will become an open dump": in Carrières-sous-Poissy, the scourge of illegal dumps

2021-02-22T11:04:56.411Z

In one year, 200 tons of rubbish were collected on the sidewalks, and 300,000 euros spent to remove them… To combat this phenomenon

After a phase of teaching, Eddie Aït ended up toughening up the tone.

This Sunday morning, the mayor (various environmentalist) of Carrières-sous-Poissy carried out a first return operation to the sender of illegal deposits.

Planks, wooden pallets, old furniture, household waste… nearly 10 cubic meters of waste were deposited with the polluters, three residences located at 560 and 717, rue de la Chapelle.

This time, no one has yet been formally identified.

It was the social landlord and the condominium managers of the buildings concerned, that is to say the logistics managers, who were fined.

This amounts to between 35 and 1,500 euros, if the abandonment was made using a vehicle.

"These organizations had already been called to order several times but nothing has changed", explains Eddie Aït, the mayor of the city who has decided to score a big blow.

“It is up to them, then, to turn against the tenants and owners.

"

Forty procedures initiated

For several months, he has observed an increase in the number of waste on public roads: “If we do nothing, the city will soon become an open dump.

»Nearly 200 tons of rubbish were collected on the sidewalks of the town in just over a year, or 300,000 euros in expenditure for the municipality.

Since the first confinement and the increase in Internet purchases, the elected official has seen many more boxes on the sidewalks than before.

“And yet, adds the mayor, I am not even talking about the plain.

»He is referring here to the former gigantic wild landfill located astride his commune, Triel-sur-Seine and Chanteloup-les-Vignes.

In January 2020, a major device was deployed to clean up the site of around forty hectares.

Of the 26,000 tonnes of waste dumped in twenty years, almost nothing remains.

Since his arrival last June, the new mayor has nevertheless done "a lot of prevention".

These are five agents responsible for cleanliness in the city who must also manage the illegal deposits.

"They are not supposed to take care of that but there are so many that we have no choice", specifies Eddie Aït.

The municipal police officers are also involved since since September, they verbalize the polluters.

“At present, forty procedures are initiated.

"

Cardboard terminals soon to be installed

"Since the first confinement and the increase in Internet purchases, we have seen many more boxes on the sidewalks than before," said the elected official.

To remedy this, the municipality is soon planning the installation of cardboard terminals.

For Eddie Aït, "it is not enough to cry out loud and clear that we wish to participate in the rescue of the planet, it is still necessary to prove it by respecting some rules of good manners in community".
