The SPD health expert Karl Lauterbach is dissatisfied with the current speed of the vaccinations and speaks of the "biggest mistake" that will go down in history.

Berlin - The vast majority of experts agree: There can only be a way out of the corona crisis through the widespread use of vaccines.

This makes the speed at which vaccinations are advancing in Germany and Europe all the more tragic.

Combined with the impending danger of the Corona mutants from England or South Africa and the danger of a third wave from them, the delays in the vaccinations could still cost Germany dearly.

Coronavirus in Germany: Lauterbach criticizes vaccination speed and provides a solution

At least that's the opinion of SPD health expert Karl Lauterbach, who looks at the vaccination rate in Germany on his Twitter account with concern.

"The EU has the oldest population and cannot afford this vaccination rate for a long time in the beginning of the 3rd wave", comments the 58-year-old on a graphic that shows that far fewer people in the EU have received a first dose of vaccine than in the USA, UK or Israel.

Lauterbach also has a possible solution in his tweet on Monday.

"A game changer can only be a pragmatic bringing forward of the first dose, because deaths and hospital cases drop dramatically," suggests the health economist.

The vaccines from BioNTech / Pfizer and AstraZeneca currently used in Germany do not develop their full effect until after the second dose administered, but a decrease in the proportion of severe disease courses was observed in both vaccines after the first dose.

Lauterbach finds clear words about the vaccination strategy - "Will go down in history"

At the weekend Lauterbach had already made clear statements about the vaccination rate in Germany.

“No matter how you twist or turn it.

The inadequate and late development of vaccination capacity by the EU will go down in history as the biggest mistake in our fight against Covid, ”wrote the SPD politician on Twitter.
