23 years since the return of Hong Kong, the five major disciplined forces still use British marching. Only the Immigration Department has included Chinese marching in their performances. Whether to abandon the British and transfer to another has been controversial.

A reporter from "Hong Kong 01" found at Wong Chuk Hang Hong Kong Police College today (22) that there were PLA officers in Hong Kong who were providing Chinese marching ceremonial training. It can be seen that Hong Kong police officers consist of about ten people in a team, with one to two PLA officers teaching Chinese marching .

In addition, the reporter also found other disciplined services personnel present.

The news confirmed that the police invited the three service guards of the People’s Liberation Army to teach Chinese-style marching. The police provided the venue. All five disciplined services personnel were present for training. The course lasted about two weeks.

It is reported that the police are expected to use Chinese marching in certain occasions or activities in the future, but there is no final decision on whether it will be fully adopted.

The police force consists of about 10 people in groups, guided by one to two People's Liberation Army.

In the past, the police had always learned British marching, and would send drills and firearms training inspectors to the British Military Academy of Honor for training, and then return to Hong Kong to train other personnel.

At the end of 2016, the police invited 4 British guards of honor to Hong Kong to train for the police, 50 police officers and 7 other disciplined services officers in marching for two weeks.

The police stated at the time that because the police force had been using the British military's honor guard standards, there was no plan to invite the People's Liberation Army in Hong Kong to conduct marching honor guard training for personnel.

News: The police force has not yet finalized the decision to switch to Chinese marching

This arrangement has changed following the anti-revision incident and the implementation of the "Minato National Security Law".

In August last year, the British Ministry of Defence suddenly ordered the prohibition of training the Hong Kong police force. At that time, the police explained that after assessing the risk of infection and the assumption of operational human resources, they took the initiative to suspend overseas training.

Today (22nd), for the first time, a member of the People's Liberation Army stationed in Hong Kong provides training in Chinese marching ceremonies at the Police Academy.

According to sources, since other disciplined forces have learned and performed Chinese marching in the past, the police also hope to introduce Chinese marching in future performances. Therefore, the PLA invited the PLA to train police academy instructors for the police force. In the future, the instructors will train other personnel.

As for whether it will completely abandon the UK and transform it into China, there is no final decision.

In addition, in addition to the police force, the Fire Services Department, the Immigration Department, the Correctional Services Department and the Customs and Excise Department also sent officers to the scene for training.

"Hong Kong 01" is making enquiries with the Security Bureau, the police and other disciplinary forces regarding the incident.

In recent years, disciplined forces and uniformed teams have performed Chinese marching.

In 2018, there was a video circulated on the Internet that Immigration Department personnel performed Chinese marching. At that time, the Immigration Department responded to media enquiries, stating that the flag raising ceremony and the graduation parade were always conducted in British marching, and they had demonstrated steps in some parades. Fancy and other footwork.

In 2019, at the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and the 100th anniversary of the May Fourth Movement, some uniformed teams switched to Chinese marching performances for the first time, including the Hong Kong Flag Raising Team, Hong Kong Aviation Youth League, Hong Kong Girl Guides and Hong Kong Road Safety Team.

Chinese and British marching is different

The main difference between Chinese marching and British marching is the swing of hands and feet.

For British marching, when you move your hands back and forth during a step forward, you need to extend your forward arm until it is level with your shoulder height; when you swing your hands in Chinese marching, you don’t need to fully extend your hands to shoulder height. .

The footsteps of British marching require the feet to touch the ground first, and then to step forward; Chinese marching is also called "goose step" or "goose walking duck step", because the walking form is more advanced than ducks and geese. When kicking, you will kick higher and require the entire sole to hit the ground hard.
