In Germany, people are currently enjoying the beautiful weather.

Even in a French holiday region, people are drawn outside - with fatal consequences.

Nice - With its Mediterranean climate and picturesque landscapes, the Côte d'Azur attracts many holidaymakers year after year.

The region in France is one of the most popular holiday regions in Europe.

The authorities are concerned about an extremely high number of new infections *.

Corona on the Côte d'Azur: British mutation and good weather cause problems

According to the regional government, the situation in the coastal communities of Théoule-sur-Mer, west of Cannes to Menton on the Italian border, has "deteriorated significantly".

To counteract this, the corona vaccinations * should also go faster there.

For this purpose, according to the authorities, additional vaccination doses were ordered from the manufacturers Pfizer and Astrazeneca.

According to official reports, the number of new Corona * infections in Nice had risen to more than 700 per 100,000 inhabitants.

This corresponds to three times the French average of around 190. From the point of view of the authorities, the reasons for the sharp increase are diverse.

On the one hand, the British virus mutation * had an impact.

On the other hand, the spring-like weather also weakened people's discipline and lured them to the beaches.

The head of world doctors has already sounded the alarm.

Corona on the Côte d'Azur: regional government tightened the measures

Now the first conclusions were drawn.

As Bernard Gonzalez, the prefect of the Alpes-Maritimes administrative district, announced on Monday, extensive exit restrictions will apply from next weekend.

In addition, it was decided to significantly tighten controls at airports and on the border with Italy.

In future, EU citizens entering France will have to show the French border guards a negative PCR test *.

In the affected region, residents are only allowed to leave their homes for a maximum of one hour within a five-kilometer radius on weekends.

Anyone who does not adhere to the guidelines must expect a fine of 135 euros.

In addition, the retail trade in the regions mentioned on the Côte d'Azur is also affected by the stricter Corona regulations.

As of Tuesday, all shops with more than 5000 square meters of retail space will have to close.

Only grocery stores are allowed to stay open.

The corona measures should initially apply for two weeks.
