Traffic often jams at the intersection of Blumenstrasse and Elbestrasse in Geretsried.
Now it should be strengthened.
The building authority is currently in the fine-tuning.
Geretsried - A major construction project is pending on the former Lorenz site: 770 apartments will be built there, a day-care center, a boarding house and 700 square meters of commercial space.
The company responsible for the project, Krämmel, received the necessary permits last year.
The prerequisite for the new residential area is that the city has upgraded the intersection at Blumenstrasse and Elbestrasse.
As far as that is concerned, the building authority is currently in the “fine-tuning”, says Thomas Loibl, press spokesman in the town hall, when asked by our newspaper.
The plans are to be presented at one of the next meetings of the city council's development and planning committee and are expected to be approved.
"In the best case, we can advertise this year," says Loibl.
The intersection is heavily frequented, and turning traffic is already regularly backing up there at peak times.
When the “Living on Banater Straße” project is completed, experts expect 3725 more journeys per day.
A total of 30,000 vehicles pass the intersection area with the directly adjacent B11 north entrance.
Too much for a roundabout, according to the report a traffic light is necessary.
Due to the close proximity to the main artery with the Weilheim State Building Authority - the authority is responsible for the federal road - the city has recorded this in an intersection agreement.
This regulates details on costs, burdens and obligations.
About a year ago, the building and environmental committee dealt with the proposed solution for the intersection.
In addition to traffic lights for cars and cyclists on Elbestraße, the idea is to create a left and right turn lane.
Since then there has also been an on-site meeting with all those involved.
According to Loibl, minor additions were suggested.
The building authority is currently incorporating these comments.
